Pleasantly surprised with the West Bengal tourism Digha Tourist lodge. Very specious room, large patio, and if you are ready to overlook few water stains in the bathroom. it is very clean!! It is a block away from the sea, amid greenery, sea visible, in part, from our top floor room. Rooms include powerful a/c, lcd tv set, king size bed, sofa set and coffee table.

Staffs are nice, old, kind and helpful, almost fatherly attitude.

Tried fish fry, doi fish, vetki curry, parshe jhal, pomfret jhal, mutton kasha and caramel pudding. Traditional bengali cuisine, delicious!! In spite of walking endlessly all day, I've easily gained a few inches.

They happily accommodated our request for late check-out.

Please set your expectations right. This is a basic budget place, run by government.
I went in with low expectation, and I returned very pleased.

Room Tip: Pick top floor rooms..

After spending an hectic and busy week, we wanted to spend three days in a calm and quiet place and DTL booking was available then, so we went for that. Hwh-Dgha Duront Exp was in time to reach Digha and by a Omni, we found ourself at the gate of Digha Tourist lodge in a few minutes in old Digha. It is a massive property, own by WBTDC and a nice, calm and quite one. We took three A.C. rooms and the rooms are big, clean and well-maintained. It has a large green garden in front of the balconies. The inside garden needs some attention to be cleaned but I must admit that the fault greatly lies on ourself, the tourists, who use it as a garbage dump although there is a notice reminding all not to make it dirty. Anyway, it has generator facility and a good bar-cum-restaurant. The breakfast is complimentary and the lunch and dinner to be pre-ordered. There are some local restaurants just opposite to the hotels and they are good. The sea is near the hotel, a little walking requires. At dawn, the vans to Mohana just passes by the hotel, so it is somehow helpful to avoid wasting time. This is also a good deal to stay at Digha when there is heavy rush and the private players ask for absurd rates. WBTDC have a good online booking facility.

We have been coming to this property for quite few years and kind of like it since it is in the relatively quiter part of the town but close to the sea (100mts) is adjacent to the kolkata highway, has many shops around for daily needs and is a well spread out property with large rooms (with balcony), Gardens, sit outs, portico etc. Overall, it hasnt change much, which can be both good and bad. On the not so good part - service is cordial but slow, menu is limited, linens are clean but basic, one has to book for lunch around breakfast and for dinner around lunch, no wifi, no gym or pool.
However the good and better parts are that the food and Bar is limited to residents only so you do not have everybody walking in and hence safer, the rooms are larger with big bathrooms and clean linen, service is warm and cordial, very reasonably priced - rooms and food items though limited option. The staff is very helpful and will guide you if required (on sight seeing, shopping etc), preferred by family groups, the environment is quite and relaxing and since it is a Govt property, the security is good.
I would have given this property average but in Digha, the good points mentioned above are little hard to get, as per my experience and so it still remins in my top 3 option to stay in Digha.

Room Tip: Try and book 02/03 series, for example 102,202, 302 etc as they have a sea view and is by the road w...

Pros - Rooms are spacious. Balcony view is good. Ample parking space. Big restaurant with good food. Lawn area is well maintained. 2-3 min walking distance from beach.

Cons - Bathrooms are big in size but not so clean. Room service for lunch and dinner is not available. Also food availability is very time bound like you will not get any snacks after 7:30pm etc. You have to wait a lot for check-in or check-out as no one is available at reception desk.
