Stayed here for couple of nights during a team outing. The cottage is in a beautiful picturesque location. The cottage is fairly big and very well made with a lot of nice wood work. There are 4 bedrooms and an attic. There is a large sitting room and a kitchen. There are lawns outside the cottage to relax / play. All rooms have heating. Only problem we faced was the supply of water on the upper floor. The staff was fantastic and meals prepared by them we were tasty. Great hospitability by the staff. Perfect place to stay if you are travelling in a group and want a quiet and away from the city location. Very calm and serene. Really enjoyed the stay.
Nice place, great staff, perfect location provides a great vacation point. We were approx 10 in numbers and it was sufficient for the group.
Having stayed two nights in Machus cottage at the Mughal e Khas room, the writer in me( amateur and two bit for sure ) cannot help but wax eloquent about this beautiful piece of jannat hidden away in the mountains .
After weaving though the hills for what seemed a really really long time ( it was just two and a half hours from kathkodham though) and promising myself I won't ever put my car sick self through ranother journey in the hills , BANG ! This beautiful white cottage with its red roof practically sitting on top of the mountain comes into view .
It was love at first sight . The cobbled drive way gave way to the porch lined with purple irises, flaming red bunch roses , pink and yellow gerberas, and the most beautiful white lilies I have ever seen. That's machus cottage for you .
As warm and inviting as the owner , Machu herself , the place offers peace , quiet and a chance to rediscover life s lost joys of reading , writing , hiking and generally just being at peace with oneself .
And now I must come to my room .. My beautifull beautifull room!
The Mughal e Khas - the green room .
The Mughal theme is delicately woven through the entire room . The chairs with its matching pouf in front of the pristine bay windows are upholstered in rich vibrant leaf green . The curtains so delicately reflect that hint of green in their floral pint on a beige background.
The bukhari next to this beautiful sit out promises cozy winter evenings gazing into its warm toasty inviting glow , after having spent the day lounging around in the garden that looks so inviting .
Beautiful contemporary and timeless . All in one room.
And the bathroom. Huge, clean .. no gleaming , modern and with all the amenities one could need . The toiletries , furnishings provided and the overall look and feel of the place were several notches above what one expects from a homestay .
The lawn is beautifully manicured and well tended to .The manager and the cook were happy fellows who looked after our every request and who cooked up delicious food for every meal .The food was delicious , the menu well thought out and substantial . I took so many cues from the innovative salads and breakfast options served to us . Of particular mention is the sauted palak and tomato chutney which was served for breakfast . I promptly made a sandwhich of the two . The moong dal salad with cucumbers in it , the tandoori Alu ,Yummmm.
Be warned .. Come here only to be at peace with yourself . There is no mall nearby and the sleepy hamlet of mauna only has chai patti and provisions like that .This is not a mall and shopping kind of place . This is a peace and quiet and natural beauty kind of place .
Like I said, I m a two bit amateur writer , so even though my English teacher told me that any good piece of writing must have a solid opening and a solid closing ,
Unfortunately I have no closing . Just .. Peace :)
Machus cottage :)
