The Grand Oak Manor far exceeded our expectations - the location is fantastic, with beautiful views of all sides of the hotel. The rooms were very well done up and treatment of the staff very warm and helpful. There was a variety of food. Got to have mexican also. Very good view from balcony. Many thanks to Sindhu and Shikha the owners for their hospitality. The place gives you very good guide to take you to village and the zero point. We were guided by Deepak Joshi a guide from a nearby village who was a remarkable bird watcher. He even took us to his village to his house for a village lunch which was awesome.

The place is an eco resort - no electricity during the day and no TV, but we never missed it. Ideally for people interested in nature and treks. The views of the peaks are supposedly wondeful during Oct season. We missed out because of the clouds.

Room Tip: All rooms are great.

Binsar is the best kept secret of the Kumaon region.Tucked away in a quiet corner in the north of Uttaranchal, it is a revelation. The Grand Oak Manor is one of only five properties that exist 'in' Binsar all the others lie outside, thus making it an exclusive destination. The property is run by a young couple who ensure your stay there is memorable. Breathtaking views of the Himalayas and lush evergreen forests abounding with flora and fauna are just a few of the advantages of staying here.Good food, great staff, all in all a must visit.

Binsar can be best experienced by staying at Grand Oak Manor. The property mesmerised me with its simple yet elegant décor. An educated young couple runs this heritage property located right at the middle of the sanctuary. I relished on mouth-watering Kumaoni and continental delicacies that they served. The jungle walk and the village walk were just amazing. Infact a walkthrough towards the zero point is a must. This place wonderfully connects you with nature.

“ I had heard a great deal of Binsar and its magnificent scenery. But what I actually saw surpassed all the imaginary pictures I had built up. ……. towering snow peaks stretching from left to right is unique and I have seen nothing equal it. “ …. Udayshankar said about Binsar while staying in The Grand Oak Manor way back in 1941.

Binsar is a beautiful, quiet and wild Himalayan destination with rich natural surroundings among dense forest. Binar is perched on top of the Jhandi Dhar hills. The place is situated 33 km north of the Almora town in the Uttarakhand state. From Binsar one can see the 300 km panoramic view of the Himalayan peaks like Kedarnath, Shivling, Trisul and majestic Nanda Devi from a place called “Zero Point”.

The Grand Oak Manor, in the heart of the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary in the Kumaon hills, has been in existence since 1856 during the British Empire when the British Commissioner of Kumanon, General Sir Henry Ramsay acquired this piece of land and established his private estate here. Binsar soon became the favourite and the most exclusive summer retreat for the British Officers and administrators.

I had been to The Grand Oak Manor, Binsar along with my family. I booked two rooms for two nights (21st May and 22nd May) through email after paying the full advance. After entering the Binsar Sanctuary we found it difficult to locate the hotel and we were misguided to a different route. One hotel staff of Grand Oak came all along the rough terrain to escort us. Once we reached the Grand Oak it was a pleasant surprise. Mrs. Gangola was standing in front of the door to greet us. She guided us to the rooms at the first floor. The surroundings, ambience, view from the rooms were truly majestic.

The stay at The Grand Oak was like a home stay. We were amazed with the behavior, hospitality, professionalism of the staff. The food was simple, tasty and quite good. They maintain a library with good stock of books which one can read while staying at The Grand Oak.
Next day morning, they organized a walk through the jungle with a local guide. We were amazed with the call of various birds and the surrounding nature.

It was a wonderful and memorable stay for me and my family at The Grand Oak Manor. We departed on 23rd morning with a promise to come back once again……

Room Tip: Please try to stay at room no - 302 or 303 at first floor facing the valley and mountain peaks

Fed up of the constant nuances of a busy city life? Looking for a quiet holiday where you can be at peace with yourself. Trust me folks, this is the place you need to visit. No amount of praise would really be good enough to describe The Grand Oak Manor. The place mesmerizes you at first sight and just keeps getting better with every passing minute. Located in the midst of the Binsar Wildlife sanctuary, the Grand Oak Manor has been restored from an old British property by the owners. Exuding an old world charm the place offers every conceivable luxury that one could expect from a modern resort. Cosy, double bedded rooms with quaint balconies where one could spend the entire afternoon admiring the breathtaking view of the majestic Himalayas. What strikes you most is the grandeur of the panoramic view from every part of the residence and its surroundings. The owners, Sindhu and Shikha, come across as an extremely dedicated, warm, friendly and very informative couple who are there to answer all your queries and look after all your needs, however trivial. The food is delicious enough to make you look forward with anticipation to every meal and the attending staff is courteous and delightfully efficient. Regular electric supply is not available, thanks to the rules of the sanctuary within which the place is located, but the problem has been largely surmounted with a thoughtful, bird-friendly windmill supplemented with a diesel powered generator. For late night birds, solar lanterns are provided to take care of your requirements. For the adventurously inclined, there are a number of nature trails waiting to be explored. So, if you are looking for quiet and solitude and rejuvenating yourself while soaking in the grandeur of the Himalayan ranges in their pristine glory, Grand Oak Manor in the Binsar wild life sanctuary is a place not to be missed out on!

Room Tip: The valley view as well as the Himalayan view rooms have their own charm, so do not be disappointed...

If you are worried about money, and want electricity, tv, swimming pools, table tennis, and are a
tourist, then steer clear, like some of the
reviewers.
You got to have some sensibilities, some tastes to enjoy this wonderful place.
You should love nature, mountains, trees, birds, the fresh exhilarating air, delicious and nourishing food, with varied cuisines, including continental.
My wife and friends had one of the best vacations in the last few years.
The owners are a delightful young couple, and along with the courteous staff, they make you feel at home.
If you want a getaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life, then this is the perfect place. This is a resort as good as can be within a protected forest and wildlife reserve.
If you don't come back with a satisfied glow, then it reflects on you and your taste, your wrong expectations, not the delightful jewel of a place, the grand oak manor is.
I look forward to earn and deserve it again soon.
