I had visited this propety with my family about a decade ago and thought it to be quite quaint and lovely. However, when I went back this time I was even more pleasantly surprised at how beautifully the new management has redone the property. At a truly affordable price (Rs.10,000/- per night for a stay of four people) the GRT Temple Bay is one of the finest delights in Mahaballipuram. There isn't a thing this hotel doesn't have. From a state of the art Spa to two beautiful swimming pools (one of which is one of the longest in Asia!), the GRT is just stunning.

The lush greenery and the soft, golden sand proves to be quite a contrast and an equally tempting romantic setting. The hotel even has its own private beach for the guests to relish! If you're there with children and would like some 'alone time' with your spouse just drop them off at the gaming center and take off!!! with hammocks scattered everywhere you wouldn't want to be a couch potato in your room.

The food is equally appatizing and gives you a sense of value for money. I personally recommend indulging in the sinful chocolate cognac mousse (especially if you've burnt off so many calories swimming against the waves and walking down the sandy beach). And if walking isn't your cup of tea...don't worry...the friedly staff is always on call to transport you in gold carts! does it get any better than this??? well, it actually does...they give you a cute shell necklace when you arrive. :-)

So gear up and explore everything that GRT Temple Bay has to offer...and trust me...it has tons to offer from a range of luxury rooms and villas with their own private pools to golf courses to a world class spa. Rediscover this truly 'new and improved' commercial property

It was a business stay for me in the resort. My stay was very peaceful and pleasant since the resort is situated in a good location called mahabalipuram which is a famous tourist and historical place in chennai. It has gym, swimming pool, bar, beach etc., and many siteseeing places like boat club, mgm, vgp, thirukalukundram etc are situated nearby. But the tariff is not suitable for middle class people and is definitely a nice place for foreigners to spend their vacation.

We were a group of 5 couples with 1 child each and we stayed at the Bay View Rooms at Temple Bay. Rooms were of varying sizes and tend to have different sized balconies as well. So, one needs to be careful in picking the rooms. My brother lives in Chennai and he personally had hand picked the rooms with the best view and large balconies.

The best part was that the property has a lot of swimming pool options and so the kids had a nice time. The property is right on the beach front and so bathing in the bay of bengal is a real option. The hotel also has a lot of lifeguards around and so that's reassuring.

The one negative is that their lunch and dinner buffets cost a lot - Rs.825-1100/- plus taxes per head. Fortunately, good south Indian food options are just 1 KM away from the property. That does seem too close when one has to walk nearly 400m rom the room to the front gate! The property has golf carts to go around but they are few and require a decent 10-15 minute wait to get one. So, invaribaly, we went walking.

Alternatively, one should try going ala carte on dinner. Good South India food. Panner is not as good as in Mumbai or Delhi. Understable, considering this is South India. A Ala carte dinner would be at least 50% cheaper. Ideally, one should negotiate the dinner as well in the package. We got the prices down 15% but missed getting the dinner buffet in. Breakfast spread is huge and so lunch is not a necessity, except for the kids.

The property has a good leisure activity room and a lot of space around to play any outdoor sport you might like. We made with Cricket, Baseball, beach volleyball and "Dog and the Bone" with the kids. Huge property - about 45 acres, including the 6 holde golf course with a well equipped gym and a reasonably priced spa.

The staff is very courteous and most of them are very happy looking. The service tends to be a bit slow in execution. But I suspect that's because they have such a large property.

The kids had a super time especially because the pool was just off our rooms and because the management ensures some kind of kiddie activity during the day. We enjoyed magic shows and painting contests during our stay.

The best place for having business meeting and office outs for parties and get togethers with beautiful outlook on Sea beach, volleyball grounds and others to addin with a great and tastier veg/non-veg food. Accomodations too good near the beach for its value to enjoy the nature on its whole!!

the hotel promised a lot but failed on all counts due to poor service. They were not prepared to handle a spurt of guests on a holiday weekend. The hotel adopted discriminatory policies to meet this challenges. The only decent restaurant which is called "Wharf" was reserved, the entire restaurent, no room fo walk in guests or first come first served policy. If you are planning a trip please ensure that you either know the General Manager of the hotel on a first name basis or you are a celebrity, whatever the case may be but not a commoner who in our case was our fault.

We stayed at the GRT temple Bay for two nights during our stay in India. We had a Chalet facing the Bay of Benghal. This hotel is really nice. The rooms are very spacious and clean and the service was excellent. The hotel has the biggest pool in SE Asia. The breakfast was great, having a vast choise. We also ate at one of the restaurants at the hotel, the one facing the beach and the service as well as the food were great. Would highly recommend this hotel and would definately stay again if we get a chance to go back to Mahabalipuram.

I stayed in GRT Temple Bay for 3 nights during a Tamil Nadu tour.
The property is very big and very well maintained. They are building new cottages near the new lake-pool area.

I had a nice and large cottage room on 1th floor, sea facing. Unfortunately these room are the older one and with some problems: there was a bad smell into the bathroom and the room was not so clean than you can expect, but the sea view from the balcony was fantastic!

I had very good massages in the Ayurveda center and all center was clean and well organized.

I had also good dinners at “The Warf” restaurant, good service and well cooked food, instead of “Coffee Shop” with a very poor and slow service for dinner.

As well bad service for laundry: not well ironed clothes and service out of promised time.
