“Excellent break!”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

We had just 24 hrs together and wanted to make the most - so my kids and I decided to stay at the Radisson BLU Resort Temple Bay Mamallapuram for one night. Turned out to be an excellent move. We stayed at the sea facing villa - spectacular view of the ocean and lovely breeze whole day. The room was large and very comfortable, the bathroom lovely and clean and the outdoor shower was fun. We ordered room service for dinner - excellent !!! The infinity pool is gorgeous and the staff very friendly. In all a great break!!

This my 3rd visit to this resort.
This time I stayed at the pool villa.
Good experience.
The pool villa can be a better if it is more secluded.
The pool lights and Jacquzzi were not working when we checked in,but it was immediately sorted out.Other than that I dont have any complaints.

The Temple Bay is sprawled across a large area by the shore near the famous Mahabalipuram shore temple. It is very calm and serene and surrounded by lush greenery (the less explored extension of the Chennai city) and the lapping sound of the sea. It is a very secluded property with all the green camouflage and beautiful frangipiani trees. We had a very warm welcome from the staff, all with the shell garland and a ride in the buggy to our sea view Chalet. Our chalet had an excellent view with the sea and the pool ahead, a great balcony with vintage Indian rocking chairs completing the look. The room in itself was styled in a contemporary south Indian style. The restaurants (The Wharf & Water edge) are both wonderful, especially their breakfast spread is enormous, the ambiance of their bar is also very dainty n pretty. They also have a number of activities like deep sea diving, golf, ATV which keeps you engaged. Their main attraction though is their Infinity pool with crystal clear waters that is among one of the largest in Asia, its so very soothing to swim across almost the entire property. Though the service could have been better, otherwise the experience was wonderful, great privacy and worth the money if you have enough to splurge.

The Sea View Chalet exceeded expectations -- renovated room was heavenly right on the edge of the ocean with a private patio for the kids to walk in and out from the grounds. We took three rooms total, and it was nice having them all together in our own unit. The property itself is a sprawling tropical paradise -- spa, family area and aruvedic center all very lovely. The pool is incredible, the vanishing edge pool amazing. They are still working on the fine touches, however -- There were several weddings and special events going on in public areas which went into the night and were sometimes extremely loud. Villas and rooms facing this special event venue (located by the seafood restaurant) would be miserable. If you are expecting to have a quiet evening on your patio listening to the ocean, it won't happen. Management needs to work on how to strike a balance between accommodating loud special events and hotel guests at the same time. Service is sluggish.

The hotel's grounds are its greatest attraction. They spread over an extensive area and are beautifully kept with an amazing variety of plants and trees. The maze of paths among the shrubbery gives a feeling of seclusion wherever your room is situated. The central pool is very big but is cleverly designed to give the impression of a series of tropical pools. Elegant stone sculptures reminiscent of Eskimo art decorate the park along the main path leading to the reception and restaurant area.
Our room was a “Sea View Chalet”, which is rather a misnomer since it has nothing to do with a chalet or even a bungalow for that matter. The wooden furnishings were drab and a far cry from the “graceful and stylish rooms” description used in the hotel’s brochure. Still, it was clean, comfortable and spacious. Wifi is free but power outages are rather annoying. The water in the shower suddenly runs from hot to cold and back to hot again for no apparent reason.
The breakfast buffet in the Water’s Edge Café is very good, with an impressive variety of Indian and Western dishes. Service is friendly and efficient and there is a section on the terrace where you can order all sorts of hot dishes from scrambled eggs to wafer-thin dosas. The Café is open 24hrs - the food is nothing special but good for families with young kids (spaghetti and chips on the menu). The only alternative eatery in the evening is the Wharf restaurant down by the beach. Here the food is more refined, but nothing to write home about. As others have remarked, wine is offered at usurious prices for basic plonk, but the service is very friendly and the setting is a balm for the winter-weary soul.

Beautiful location, just off the beach, right next to the town. The rooms are well done , ours was facing the ocean. Housekeeping and service was excellent. The property is well spread out, one may need to walk nearly a km to reach some of the rooms. The hotel provides services of electric bugys for movement within. The buffet had a wide spread and good food. Only complain ...very strict about buffet timings. Overall a fabulous experience.

On the first night my friend who is slightly disabled took a shower and promptly slipped and fell on the tiles. There are no warnings and no mats provided. Once these tiles get wet they are VERY slippery, so be warned! When we later reported this the staff member sent someone to clean the shower again when we complained, but the point is more to provide non-slip surfaces and not the same floor tiles in the shower area or provide rubber mats.
The hotel is very spread out and they have buggies to take you to your room with your luggage initially.
The rooms are very local in flavour - not very Radisson at all, but quite clean and comfortable. There is free WiFi but beware power cuts. These must be expected as the room has a self-charging portable ligh provided.
Our room was right at the end of the complex next to the sea so a long way from reception.
The Wharf restaurant can be recommended but can be expensive. Choose caferfully what you eat and it is good value so long as you steer clear of the winelist.
The buffet breakfast was average with a large selection to choose from.
A good hotel but the Health and Safety issue of the shower in our room is of concern.
There is a very large pool area and several health facilities, spa and Ayurvedic centre.

We are working on the non slippery mat for the bathrooms to provide much better grip while taking showers.

The local taxes on the Wine is very high and which is what is making the wine more expensive.

We appreciate the feedback and will use it to fine tune our operations in the hope that upon your next visit, we can meet or exceed your expectations.
