“Clean, Relaxing, excellent service: a haven for the weary traveller”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2011

Mamallapuram was our first stop on our trip through southern India ... . and it was an excellent location to recover from jet lag and acclimate to southern India. The hotel is situated right in the heart of everything you want to see: walking distance from the Shore Temple and Penance of Arjuna, a short drive to Kanchipuram. The staff are so friendly and helpful, especially at the wonderful restaurant on the roof, that you can relax, rejuvenate, and hit the road again. The rooms are very clean and well appointed. They are comfortable and we slept very well. The hotel is just off the main street, but you don't hear any noise. The hotel was very helpful in arranging for drivers to take us to the local sights. I would highly recommend this location to anyone visiting Mamallapuram!

The hotel looked pretty in the evening when it was lit up. It had a good pool and the ambience of the rooftop restaurant was nice, but others in our party fared better eating seafood at the beach (bigger choice and cheaper price), which is fairly near. We didn't try the vegetarian restaurant.
The room itself was OK and clean but we had to tape up the curtains otherwise a large gap. No hot water in the morning. Service at breakfast was dreadful and we virtually had to serve ourselves, gathering butter etc from other tables.
Definitely use mosquito repellent in Mamallapuram.

The hotel is by the main bus depot in town (so you can hear traffic), a little away (5 min walk) from the main tourist crossroads. The staff are very good and efficient, of a standard I would expect from an international hotel. Staff were apologetic for the absence of wifi service on my floor. The rooms are very clean, with effective A/C (I presume in all rooms - I stayed in a Deluxe). The bathroom has a window, but is relatively well-cooled if the door is left open. Breakfast is a reasonable South Indian buffet, but is identical daily, with minimal choice. The instant coffee and teabags are also left out for you to make yourself - this is unusual for India, and fresh brewed coffee would make it much better. Helpfully, they have bottled water in the restaurant.
In summary, this is a moderately priced hotel, which is good if you don't mind being away from most tourist restaurants etc and the beach. They, unlike most Indian hotels, also have an efficient email booking service on their website.

Enjoyed a wonderful cultural evening celebrating new year 2011 with local residents and entertainment.
Rooms were basic but comfortable and reasonably clean.
Located in the midst of this small town and walk to everything.

Enjoyed our stay - great pool and excellent veg restaurant (check out the veg thali - best we had in India!) While the hotel is tired and the rooms could do with some sprucing up the staff at this hotel are really attentive and make the stay easy. We highly recommend. It is well located right in the centre of town and easy walking distance to the five rathas. We also took a rickshaw to the Eagle Temple - 14kms away - well worth the effort.

Mammalla Heritage has nothing heritage about it but the place is a good halt for sightseeing Mahabalipuram because of its location. Most of the places to see in Mahabalipuram are within 2-3 kms of this hotel.

The rooms are very well decorated with sunny yellow curtains giving the place a very warm feel. Staff is pleasant and food (I had had only breakfast), is good. However, the pricing (2200-2500 per night) could definitely be revised to 1500-1600 per night. It doesn't really give you good VFM for the charges!

I stayed here with my husband LUCKILY for one night only. Hotel in on central location (which was the only good thing) and it seems decent from outside, but when we got inside the room we were terribly disappointed. Room is in really poor condition: all the furniture seems like it is second hand (already used by some other hotel) and bought on flea market. AC did not worked very well. Bathroom was in poor shape, towels had holes in it. Shower area was not separated from the rest of bathroom, so after showering it was completely flooded. And shower...complete disaster: NO hot water. All I wanted after a whole day spent in airplane and car was hot shower, and I do not think it is unreasonable to expect for more than 2000Rs! We complained, but staff did not care so much, they promised that there will be hot water tomorrow, which btw did NOT happen! Breakfast was uneatable, all that looked normal to me was cornflakes and milk, Indian option was terrible, no eggs offered or anything for westerners. I definitelly would not reccomend this hotel, it is not worth more that 2000Rs, no way!
