“Disappointing”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

Dont let the majestic name of 'Heritage' confuse you. Yes, the staff are very friendly and helpful and location good, but the room we had was stuffy, small and claustrophobic and noisy as they all seem to be set around a central courtyard. Didnt feel very private, it was probably clean but so shabby I felt grubby all the time I stayed there, there was a stink from the sink and run the taps for 10 mins for hot water we were told. The air con was poor and very noisy - there was something jammed in it to stop it rattling and the light switch was dodgy. We had a drink in the 'INDECO' a little further down the road and that looked nicer.

Located on the main road this hotel is centrally located between the beach and the tourist attractions. It provides a range of rooms but i always opt for one of the bigger ones at the back, which are spacious, light, quiet and comfortable. A key plus for this hotel is its big generator; an essential in Mahabs where the power is off as often as it is on !! The staff are friendly and the pool is clean; although they could do with some more sun loungers ! All in all an excellent mid-range option.

We stayed at this centrally located hotel, during mid January, after viewing some very positive & some not so positive comments at trip advisor, but decided to book, taking the positive comments. Wow, what a correct decision!! The hotel is centrally located , just few minutes walk to the monuments & beach. No need to travel by car and every thing is walkable distance. Clean spacious rooms. Good water supply of hot & cold and the complimentary breakfast was a combination of both indian and continental which my spouse enjoyed a lot. The staff were very friendly, helpful in nature & made our stay more comfortable. We wanted to extend our stay but unfortunately they were running full house and we have to move to our next location. Will definitely recommend this place to our friends. They also arrange vehicle for us to pick us from the airport at reasonable cost, if you arrive in night from the airport you can choose the pickup service.

Be careful with the type of rooms they allocate you. We booked and payed for a deluxe room but they gave us a standard room confirming that it was the deluxe one. We complaint and the next day change us to a bit better room. Although there is not a big difference, the A/C and other facilities were much better. Overall staff was nice and courteous. Breakfast good. Swimming pool OK.

Room Tip: Make sure if you pay for the deluxe, you get the deluxe room.

This medium sized hotel is well located close to the bus terminal, and is within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, the beach area and local attractions.
We found the reception, restaurant and housekeeping staff to be friendly and helpful. The hotel offers both vegetarian and non-vegetarian restaurants with good choices, good service and quality at reasonable prices. The included breafast is particularly good and offers some choices for western tastes including good esprosso/cappucino coffee.
Most of the rooms are located around the large swimming pool. The latter is very appealing, but woud be much improved by the addition of more shade. The standard rooms are quite small but adequate.:However they are rather tatty and let down by much needed refurbishment.
Would certainly recommend this hotel for its location, friendly helpful staff, good restaurants and value.....but it will be much better when the rooms have been refurbished..

The first thing to say about this hotel is that your view of it will depend on expections. If you are hoping for a nice little boutique hotel in the middle of the sculpture town, prepare to be disappointed. The hotel rooms are a bit tired and the whole layout might be described on first impressions as grim/no-frills. However if you want to stay in the middle of Mamallapuram I think this is probably your best bet. Some of the rooms look onto the sculptures, for example.

Good points? The staff were excellent. Friendly and helpful. The restaurant produces good food. However be wary of overly-optimistic reviews of this restaurant in some of the guides. The atmosphere in the restaurant is lacking (think dark/dingy rather than candlelight romance) so you are really relying on the food. I must say the food is very good and excellently priced. Another plus for the hotel is the superb hot water/power to the shower too although I don't know if this varies through the rooms.Final point - even though it was a relatively budget hotel, the breakfast competed with some hotels we stayed at in much higher price brackets. There is a nice selection of western and indian foods (although the breakfast is perhaps not a varied as more expensive hotels, what they do is done well). There is also a bean-to-cup coffee machine which, for those who care about these things, can be a deal-breaker.

Bad points? Apart from the general depressing air to the place, the swimming pool doesn't look in the best of health (though I did see some children swimming in it). Rooms are grim though clean. If you ask for an extra bed, expect a mattress on the floor complete with holes. Not good enough, even at this price. The other unfortunate thing for this Hotel is the town of Mamallapuram itself. What a horrible little tacky town, grown up around the fabulous stone sculpures. Could have been so good. Actually extremely disappointing. Had I my time again, I would have stayed outside the town (for those who can afford it, the Radisson is beautiful. For those who can't, go for a drink at the Radisson) and got an auto in to see the sculptures. The sculptures are NOT TO BE MISSED for anyone travelling near here.

If your priority is location above all then this is an appropriate choice, however the amenities are weak and cleanliness is spotty.
Pros: Location, AC adequate, pool and garden well-tended.Basic but pleasant breakfast.
Cons: "White" towels are literally gray, stained and very, very frayed. One bottle of drinkable water provided in 4 days stay. Bathroom with lots of black mold stains on walls and ceiling. Upholstery in lobby and on seating areas torn, worn thin and dirty. Internet was an extra charge but it didn't work even though our room was near the server-- when we asked for a refund or replacement time we were told a flat no.
