This has 5 rathas carved in stone which are the rathas used by pandavas during their kurukshetra war. Entry fee is Rs 10 and is 1 km from Arjuna Penance. The same entry ticket is valid for Shore temple as well. Place closes at 5.30PM

It is one of the World Heritage site in Mahabalipuram. The detailing in the carving of the stone symbolize a story behind each symbol.

The four Rathas of Dharamraja (Yuddihstra), Bhima, Arjuna, and fourth one are carved out of a descending rock hill into four amazing works of sculpture. These are not places where there are either statues but amazing exquisite work carried out by sculptures.

Its good to take a guide who can explain you importance of each statue & historic story.

Note: Take a rented bike / cycle to explore these places.

Another of the World Heritage site in Mahabalipuram. Its a work in stone. The four Rathas of Dharamraja (Yuddihstra), Bhima, Arjuna, and fourth one are carved out of a descending rock hill into four amazing works of sculpture. These are not places where there are either statues but amazing exquisite work carried out by sculptures. The place is woven into stone and there are rocks where you can stand and get wonderful pictures and capture a panoramic view of the Rathas.

I certainly recommend it. Hopefully, ASI will soon open up some nice cafeteria's or at least outsource the same to an entrepreneur so that people can enjoy the view and have some coffee/tea with food nearby. Visitors - strictly visit early in the morning time before 11 hrs and then past 1600 hrs.

They mix all nationalities, Romans, chineses, Persians, budists, egipcians, Indians, Bali, etc! So those guys had Internet in certain way! It's a small cutie but full of interesting things to visit! Just avoid to star conversation with the comercinad, they are really annoying! Take a good hat, soler protection and go for fun!

These Rathas were a real surprise - we nearly did not bother to go as we had seen most other monuments but we would have missed a real gem. Almost as wonderful as Arjunas Penance. We got there early and had around 10 minutes on own before school trips and coaches etc. It was magical.
