“The ruins of old monarchy near Chennai”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

The visit of Mahabalipuram was worth even though tiresome. The monuments is worth seeing and astonishing as the carving on the stone is amazing and worth to watch. We could take few good photos. The weather was hot and we sweat a lot to see the top of the rock. But overall it was a good experience one can have in his life. Don't get close to street vendors and tricksters as they try to sell cheap goods at abnormal price. Always carry your water and food for safe consumption.

“Stone architecture at it's best”

We have been to places like Hampi (World Renowned), somanathapura, Belur, Halebeedu etc., but all monuments at Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram) are one of their kind and speak volumes about the sculptors who brought them to life.

I urge to everyone visiting Chennai or Pondicherry to take a break in Mahabalipuram and not miss visiting this lovely place. Its unreal and its an India one must visit. The people are very gentle, the beach is lovely, weather (Oct Nov) is awesome... shopping is cute...and lovely lovely monuments scattered all over the place...in caves, besides the road, they are just awesome...

“Must see in India”

Best monuments complex Ive seen. With stories passed over generations to match. Very interesting and awe-inspiring.

It is easily at parallels with any Roman complex in terms of the sense of living history, intrigue, local culture and scale.

Walk across Arjuna's penance bas relief work to experience what a beautiful outdoor art gallery feels like.

All caves and temples in Mahabalipuram are clean and extremely well maintained
