“hotel & staff are nice”
Reviewed January 25, 2014

its my 1st night in India, after arriving from Chennai, i just went straight to Mahabalipuram.
I arrived in Mahabalipuram way early in the morning around 2 am when all the town is asleep, well my booking for this hotel was for the next day, either way at least the guard was awake and let me in & the staff accommodated me.
the room is quite nice as i'm only a solo traveler, at least for my first few day they did not shock me on the craziness of India for the days to follow.

We had an event in mahabalipuram and had booked rooms in ramakrishna hotel. The rooms are awesome, room service is great, staff is helpful and well mannered. The owner is an awesome person and very helpful. Right from booking the rooms to arranging cabs and meals everything was arranged well. The hotel is in the center of the city and most of the places of interest and the market is at walkable distance. The terrace restaurant gives u a good view of the city. The food is brilliant but you just need to order in advance if ur a big group. We were a group of 24 people. The best part is the staff is well trained and will speak to u in hindi, English and tamil so you won't face a language barrier.

Rohan

This pleasant hotel is in a quiet street in the centre of town, very convenient for the beach and all the locall attractions. We booked in advance as it was our first stop in India and we expected to be tired after a long flight. I am sure it would be possible to negotiate a good rate if you telephoned "on spec". The staff are very friendly and helpful, arranging train tickets and taxis for us and were always on hand if we needed information. We had a large, a/c room which was very clean, with a huge, comfortable bed.

There is a pretty rooftop terrace for breakfast. The breakfast service is rather slow and sometimes erratic, but that's not a complaint when one is on holiday. We would certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room at the back, away from the street.

Myself and my husband stayed recently in this hotel for 2 nights. It is very badly kept, there is no lift and the staircases are narrow. No help was offered in carrying the bags. We stayed in one of the rooms as per picture in Tripadvisor: the pictures are deceptive, the room was very small, the bed is against the wall, the (large) flat screen TV was sitting on the window sill as there would have been no other space for it. The price proposed at first, seems quiet attractive, but you soon realise that is not including A/C, breakfast and taxes, all adding to over INR2,000 - looking around Mamallapuram for this price it is easier to get a better location, price and service. Most part of the items in the menu are not available, including for breakfast.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room first and do not pay in advance, in this way you can choose depending on the sit...

Thank you for sharing your experience on Tripadvisor. we would like to inform you that we are renovating our Hotel slowly so that our guest are not disturbed and we concentrate more on guest rooms than exterior, lift facility is there on our cards and we will soon install them in our Hotel. We charge reasonable tariff for our rooms, where many hotels don't have wooden flooring, comfortable beds,32"LCD,Free Wifi,Room service etc. However we will take your feedback seriously and train our staffs and improve our food menu as well.

We promise to serve our guest with quality of service to make them feel home.

We hope to see you soon when your travels bring you to Mamallapuram.

I recently stayed at Hotel Ramakrishna from and have following to say:
a) Good location - close to beach, shore temple, Butter ball, Arjun penance and not far from Five Rathas.
b) Ambiance in the hotel is good. Rooms are comfortable.
c) Note that Restaurant is open from 7am only and I wake at 5am. First thing I need is a TEA. I ordered for it day before and yes the tea was served. And I need to call out that Tea quality was way good then expected.
d) If you are an Indian then refrain from having lunch/dinner in the Restaurant. Especially when you have other famous restaurants around - closest is the famous MoonRakers (I personally prefer Anand's MoonRakers).
e) Service is good, but you need to ask for it :).

It's definitely makes a place to stay at the price and quality worth that you get.

Room Tip: Given it's near to beach and southern India (which is hot) I preferred Standard delux room with...

This hotel is right in the centre of town and a short walk to the beach. It is super clean, nice rooms, big comfortable bed, great shower and helpful & friendly staff. It was a bit noisy at night, (people outside and dogs!), but I guess it's to be expected given it's central location. Breakfast was ok, nothing special but overall I highly recommend this hotel and it's great value for money.

Mahabalipuram is very small so most of the hotels are well located. this one is well run and the rooms are clean and newly refurbished.

If you walk to the end of the road there are two restaurants with fresh sea food and beer on the second floor. Good and relaxing but if you turn left and go down the beach a little distance there is a restaurant right on the sand also selling very fresh fish (you can look the fish in the eye before it is cooked) and it is much cheaper and you can sit with your feet in the sand.

I also recommend a driver to you. Mr A Elumalai, 09443142892 Email 7hillstravels@gmail.com He is a very, very safe driver and his car is a large, newish wagon. He speaks English more than well enough and is a very decent human being. He is sometimes parked outside the hotel. Ask the reception. Take him for a day trip or like one couple did a 30 day adventure around India. His prices are reasonable and he is very, very safe.
