The visit was for 2 days and 1 night. We booked a cottage. The sea was pretty close from the cottage after the restaurant. I don’t think it is a private beach but it was clean and uncrowded. We had a nice time by the beach and the restaurant facing the beach. The restaurant could have been more cleaner. I think the price was bit high for the room. The power supply was not steady in the beginning. Room service was not nice. I asked for sewing kit or toothpick and dryer. They didn’t have that. We asked for a towel and it took half an hour, another reminder phone call to provide that. Food was decent. Altogether i would rate it 2/5

First of all , it is meaningless to call this a resort, since it is not. I was in a state of shock when I first entered the resort. It looks like one of those railway station resorts which are full of dirt , replusive blankets and linen, disorganized reception , who have no clue about what they are doing. If that isnt enough, the restaurant has people who are at your service , who have no qualms about gargling and spitting food on the beach which you have your breakfast , or a waitress who isnt aware that she is nose digging in front of the guests ; or a restaurants itself displays vegetables in dilapidated condition that are going to be served to the guests which are on dirty slabs of the kitchen , not realizing the message they are giving to their guests. I paid in excess of three grands rupees for this so called resort, but my since advise to anyone staying at mahabalipuram to stay away from this resort, and I must admit that i got carried away by the pictures that they have posted on the web, which is really a shadow of itself

Room tip: stay away from this place

Blue bay was a decent resort - good enough for the amount it charged.
We stayed last week of feb in standard and deluxe cottages. So review is based on those cottages.

Pros.
1. Neat and clean. I read a lot of reviews about untidy/unhygienic conditions. But that was all wrong. We had booked 2 standard and 2 delux rooms - and all were good.
the room is a bit not very brightly lit. But that did not bother me atleast. Bed sheets were clean and tidy. blankets were good. Bathrooms were neat. though fittings looked old , but cleanliness wise there was no issue. Rooms were pretty big . The Sofa kept was actually a sofa cum bed. so ample of space for you. TV was there - but we did not even turn it on - so dont know what was content on it. AC was good.
2. Food was good and especially the restaurant was the USP of this place - beach side and very nice ambiance maintained. Morning time had crow issue - but they had a dedicated guard to shoo them away.the View is awesome.
3. the restaurant staff is very helpful and prompt. Food is freshly prepared and tasty.
4. Private beach in front is very well maintained and neat.
5. Kids enjoyed the open space/beach/pool/games.
6. location is right next to crocodile park - worth a quick visit - max 30 mins to cover it all.

Cons:
1. In house restaurant is very costly.
2. the house keeping staff is unresponsive and very slow in attending any issue. we waited 1 hr plus for an extra bed-sheet.
3. Even though published, there is no restriction on dress code for swimming pool use. Day visitors were using pool is Jeans also.

other points.
1. Resort is in a straight stretch. Wooden cottages are more distance from beach than standard cottages and ocean side ones. Ocean side are nearest. Its ocean side and not ocean facing ...
sea is not visible from any rooms.
2. standard cottages are in middle , next to pool.
3. Alcohol is not served.

over all it was nice stay.

Room tip: no sea view rooms

the location is a bit out of town but you can get a sharatuck( 6 seater van) for 10 rupees pp. Mahabalipuram is well worth a trip and the cleanest place we visited on our 2wk trip covering Delhi, Agra,Jaipur n Chennai. All disgustingly filthy, congested and polluted, but you have to suffer this if you want to see the sights therein, which are fabulous.
Blue Bay Staff could not do enough for us, we were treated like royalty. the resort is on a nice beach but unfortunately you cant swim due to the currant. The food is good but on comparison it is well over priced but still quite cheep. There are different levels of accommodation, we stayed in the mid range room,( i think all the accome is a bit overpriced for the standard) very spacious but a bit taty, not enough power points so get some adapters. It was reasonably clean, bed a bit lumpy. Also take mosquito plug ins, 1 is not enough for the size of room; plus coat hangers as there may only be a couple....at least there is a wardrobe. Over all we had a good experience hear.

Room tip: the lodge (shed) is the most expensive and best on offer.
