“Searingly Satisfactory”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

A cross between a shack and a restaurant. We had crab and butterfish in Moonraker's signature masala which seared it's way all the way down, but was immensely flavourful. The plain steamed rice is the only suitable thing to go with it. We gulped down mouthfuls to calm the palate, tears streaming down our faces.

Since there was no menu card with prices on, I decided to try and haggle on the prices. Never thought I could bring the prices down, but was amusedly surprised to find him bring down the rates. Even then, I am sure that we looked like typical Mumbaikars, used to atrocious restaurant prices, tired and hungry, so he must have quoted something ridiculous in the first place.

It was good and satisfying, so we left happy.

“A worthy discovery”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

This was a weekend getaway with family. We were booked at the Raddisson Blu, while the food at the hotel was decent, we were quite tired of their buffet spread. So, we decided to venture out. We were pretty sure that we wouldn't find anything more than the regular South-Indian fair, and were kind of fine with that. But, to our pleasant surprise we came across an entire lane of shacks/ restaurants in this quaint beach town. Moonrakers, was a great discovery, we ordered more than a few dishes, coz of the reasonable pricing. The Red Snapper (Chettinad style), prawn curry, barotta (flour bread), egg curry, fish curry all had great flavor and the freshness was evident, for vegetarians there may not be many options and the vegetarian stuff on the menu is pretty average. But, would definitely recommend Moonrakers to anyone who is travelling to Mahabalipuram.

“Simple place with excellent sea food at reasonable rates”
Reviewed October 29, 2013

First the pro - the seafood is awesome here. We had a huge crab, fish and a big prawn and totally loved it. Yes the place is dingy, yes its unclean and old fashioned. The service is very average. But I'm willing to throw caution to the wind and visit this place again especially because their price is very reasonable. But its strictly for sea-food. The vegetarians and non-seafood guys will not survive this place. We were courteous with the staff and they were courteous with us. Despite the rush, they made a lemonade for my daughter.Oh a note of caution, its a mad rush on weekends so you'll have difficulty finding a place and car parking. You may want to reach by 12 to be comfortable.
