“Bad destination if one is a vegetarian”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

I am a hardcore vegetarian and have been visiting this place for years with family and friends who seem to enjoy the seafood here. There seems to be no finnesse here, just a basic masala, spicy as ever in almost any dish one orders. This seem to have ardent fan base coming back repeatedly for more of the spice. The seafood is diplayed and seems to be fresh catch and there is quite a large variety. Regulars get very friendly service, especially locals who spend a lot unlike the typical European tourist who are budget travellers. If you are a vegetarian, please have your food before you accompany anyone to Moonrakers. It seems to be a Seafood Lovers delite, the menu promises many, but the they fail to deliver everything on it. A couple of restaurants a ross the street like Blue Elephantis also part of the group.

“Very fresh seafood!”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

Had dinner here tonight after reading reviews on tripadvisor, was not disappointed! The food was quite good and the fish masala was one of the best dishes I've ever had! Very fresh fish and great balance of flavours.

“Not worth the visit”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

When I was studying in Chennai I loved the food at Moonrakers. That was some 6-7 years back. I recently took my husband there and I found the food terrible. The service was also bad. The food and the beer was very pricy. At the end the only good thing was the cold beers which is served in steel tumblers ( they do not have a licence).

“Nothing exceptional”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

Once in Chennai or Pondicherry, if you express your travel agenda includes Mahabalipuram, every person recommends Moonrakers. One should know that if 5 assorted people suggest the same thing, it is most likely over hyped. And it was.

quality of seafood is fresh, but cooking and taste is quite average. Nothing exceptional . Its ok to give this a miss and instead try a smaller place, which may most likely offer a better local flavour and food in general. Dishes are prices at an average of Rs. 250

Service is alright. The staff on the ground floor was pleasant, but on the upper floors its not very pleasant or responsive.

One can easily enjoy Mahabalipuram, giving the much touted moonrakers a big skip.
