I stayed here one night, only wished I could have stayed longer. A very nicely renovated fort about 40km from Jaipur. Very peaceful location. Great restaurant and loverly rooms. A little bit pricey by Rajasthan standards but probably worth it!

Heart-stopping and mind-blowing.....this hotel is a restored antiquity with original renovated palace rooms and artworks from nearly 500 years ago. It is a rare privilege to have access to the history of Jaipur, in real time, as guests in this hotel.

Decor crosses over time with sheer brilliance, especially in the rooms - don't try and understand, just gape with wonder.....every trend that has ever come out of India has its origins in a place like this. And outside of the renovations, it is a slightly crumbling 'best exotic marigold hotel'...of course, this is Jaipur after all. Well not exactly - an hour outside of Jaipur in the village of Samode, which is also worth a walkabout.

I prefer to stay outside of Jaipur, which is stretched beyond its capacity to contain - so chaotic that it's hard to cross a road there. Samode Palace is more than a small reward for the slight inconvenience of a short trip by car.

I am humbled and overwhelmed.

Outside of this, I don't always like the style of the managers and staff in Jaipur - somehow the saturation of tourists in this area has created a bit of a monster...by way of the commission based shopping nightmare and a strange generic in the behavior of the staff.

Mr Peer Nagel - the night duty manager here was inappropriately negligent in his dismissal of me as the tour operator of a group booked in here, since I was also a guest. He seemed to be more interested in working directly with my group than through me....I guess direct business is more his scene. I have a real problem with this, given that I deliver some quantity of repeat business over time.

Since Indian culture is so steeped in etiquette, I'd call on him to find a place for a bit of respect towards tour operators in his equation.

The hotel is an hour’s drive from Jaipur but well worth the extra travel time. The Palace looks magnificent as you drive through the large wooden gates. Most of the rooms are built round four splendid courtyards. The suite we had was amazing with a large floor cushioned seating area, 4 poster bed and a luxurious bathroom with a free standing bath and large separate shower room
Food in the Indian Fusion restaurant was outstanding and the chef was proud to show guests round the kitchen. The cost of the meal was reasonable considering an amuse bouche plus a sorbet and all Indian breads and rice were included in the price.
A tour of the elaborately decorated royal apartments including the Mirrored Rooms is essential and offers fantastic photo opportunities.
A walk around the village should not be missed to see local tradesmen such as the cobbler, metal workers, and bracelet manufacturers at work. The villagers were friendly and welcomed visitors. This reception in the village is helped no doubt by the hotel employing many villagers and offering training opportunities.
We wish we had planned a longer stay at this sumptuous Palace to fully appreciate its true magnificence.

The setting of Far Pavillions is magnificent. We were fortunate that there was a special event on the evening we stayed and were greeted by the red carpet and flower petals decorating the staircase. It is a hotel with many courtyards and just when you think you know where you are ..... there is another one just around the corner.

We stayed in an enormous suite with a large bathroom, lounge area and bedroom. It was worth the long climb! The inifinity pool was quite cold as it is not heated, but well worth the effort to enjoy the wonderful views.

The food in both restaurants was superb, but particularly the Samode Restaurant only open in the evening during our stay. The level of service and food presentation surpassed some of the best London restaurants. The employment of 75% local staff was for me a plus point. The education and training of local people enables them to lead more prosperous lives too. The standard of English spoken by all staff was high.

Room Tip: If you have mobility issues check how many stairs you need to climb!

At the end of a industrious little town sits another stunning example of Hotel Splendor. Up through winding cobbled streets between colourful housing sits a grand arch under a huge fig tree. Once inside the walls a welcome blessing awaits. Our room overlooked the grand hillside country that surrounds the Palace. It had a door that availed one to sit on a veranda to soak up the ambience. Stunning room and enormious bathroom with pattern marble flooring and a shower to die for. Very pleasing after a road journey. No expensive spared here. Within the hotel walls there is the Mirror Rooms and suites once use by royalty. Wonderful artistic ceilings and walls. Staff excellent. Treated very well . Dining and food excellent. The town hosts businesses that produce authentic products at reasonable prices.

Room Tip: It's very quiet here . A outside room is better, however all rooms are nice.

Stayed two nights 13 to 15 Nov, brilliant place amazing interiors, great staff, and wonderful food can't wait to go back close enough to Delhi to stay prior to returning back to the UK. Two pools plus spa and unusual for Indian hotels race wifi in the terrace, just need a by the glass wine list otherwise they give you overpriced Reisling but don't let that stop you just go if you can

An impregnable 16th century fort, converted in the 19th century into a sumptuous palace, and now a stunning heritage hotel, Samode Palace is a great base for exploring Jaipur, an hour's drive away.  But it is well worth spending time just enjoying this beautiful place.  Look down on the various courtyards and the two lovely pools, up to the blue sky and the enfolding hills, and wander through some of the most breathtaking halls and sitting rooms in India.   The rooms are splendid, the food delicious, the service quick, efficient and very friendly without ever being intrusive, and there is free wifi in the main courtyard (Oberois and The Imperial etc,  please note).  Do stroll through the friendly local village - we visited on the night of Diwali and were invited into temples and homes, and were greeted by just about every Samode inhabitant.  This was our third visit and we can't wait to go back.
One word of warning: this is a historic palace with lots of stairs and no lifts so you need to be fit!
