“Spacious, clean rooms in stone cottages amidst lovely green grounds.”
Reviewed December 19, 2011

Fairly rustic. Can have stand alone cottage or duplex or fourplex (with upper and lower rooms) Intermittent power. The water did not work in my first room and they easily switched me to another. Large, relaxing rooms with a porch (electrical outlet, but no wifi). Not the best shower, but it was clean. Delicious food and good service at restaurant (I'm not sure what bosviool is complaining about). Clean, beautiful pool. Humourless, strict yoga master. Baliness massage available in lovely huts by the pool. It is a resort basically out in the countryside with a few small farms around, a wildlife reserve, and 30 minutes from the elaborately carved marble of the Jain temple that is the attraction here (usually just a stop for the tourist buses). There is no village to speak of and very few hotels. Little stall down the road and one other restaurant, but nothing else. (I think our group was rudely noisy with blaring music so if tour group is in, choose a room far from the main building.) Very noisy chorus of birds, crickets, etc. at night. Wonderful! Very nice respite from the dirty chaos of the cities. Great for nature lovers, not for watching TV or partying.

We wanted to see the world famous Ranakpur temples in southern Rajasthan. Aranyawas turned out to be the perfect base.

Their service was fast and efficient. Both in the restaurant and otherwise. The Manager of the resort was very helpful and the perfect person to guide us on local sights.

The food is good. They sometimes tend to go slow on the spices because they get a lot of western tourists. But they did spice it up for just us, when we requested. Wonderful.

The cottages are spacious, well ventilated with large windows. The valley and the green hills can be viewed from the bed itself. That makes for a spectacular morning and a lazy afternoon. The balcony of the cottage overlooks a brook below; gentle and very relaxing.

This resort is very near to the Ranakpur Jain temples. We had quite a time there. The centuries old temples are even more magnificent in person. We just could not get enough. I had spent a lifetime waiting for this and here I was.

The resort is also a near to the massive Kumbhalgadh fort (60 kms). That is what we visited the next day. It is a comfortable climb. It is advisable to hire a guide (Rs.100 only) at the fort.

You will need extra batteries for your camera for these sights.

Room Tip: ask for the cottages which are near to the rivulet.

This hotel is beautifully located in the mountains and the rooms are very simple, but clean. But don't visit the restaurant if you don't want to be ill. The kitchen is very unhygienic, rats running out of it and breakfast is even worse. Don't go there.

A wonderful place and location in terms of nature. Try if you want to cut off from the world, as there is not mobile coverage [I liked the most ;)]. The rooms are big and spacious with some good furniture and a big balcony. They are designed as villa. The food was average in taste. There are a couple of family/group sit-outs which are quite inspiring. The Manager was very supportive and care taking. Room service is also fine.

Overall a wonderful experience!

As a hotel is was not bad but really we should have just seen the sites and travelled straight to Udaipur as it was not worth a stop and basically it was very boring at the hotel as there was no tv or wifi – so we just had to sit around for 2 hours waiting for dinner to start.

Pros: Peaceful location, clean big room, nice balcony overlooking the river, nice big pool

Cons: no wifi, no tv, dinner advertised at 8pm but really started at 7pm and then was sort of all finished by 8.30pm, no music in restaurant so atmosphere was one of eat and run, bathroom was clean but a bit creepy feeling, very erratic hot water and power, staff not around to give towels for pool – didn’t really feel very service driven

This hotel was amazing, it is set out with an aztec design, the rooms had amazing views of either the valley or the mountains! a little cold at night but the rooms were great with great access to hot water. The rooms also had own balcony even on the group floor! There is a fire pit near the restaurant which they set up for our group one night and had some traditional indian music performance for us! The restaurant had a great buffet for each meal which was perfect as the resort is quite secluded. there isn't much around but there are some great bush walks surrounding the hotel which give great views and an intimate look at village life. We also hired some jeeps which took us to the near by Jain temples- a must see!
The service was amazing as well with all the staff very friendly!
The pool was spectacular with plenty of sun baking space. The view from the pool is breathtaking!!!
a great escape for couples or small groups!! so quiet and relaxing!

Room Tip: gab on backing of the the valley for an amazing view

We stayed at the Aranyawas in Ranakpur, some 90 kms away from Udaipur, Rajasthan for one night. Cottages, cabins and rooms tucked away in the mountainside. It wasn't fancy, very rustic, yet charming. Wish we had stayed there longer than a night. Nothing can beat the awesome poha and chai that we were served in the morning, while sitting outside, taking in the beauty of the suroundings. Very close to the famous Ranakpur Jain temple, a beautiful marble temple, dedicated to the first Tirthankar, Adinatha.
