“An average hotel at a nice old haveli”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

This haveil is a typical example of the old, once well painted haveli's with an inner court and three floors of bedrooms. Located in the center of the town. The rooms and services provided are ok, but very basic.

Myself and a friend stayed here for 2 nights 05-06 July 2013 and we were one of 3 rooms filled. Building work still going on however we were there out of season. There was a builder on top of our room so we had banging from 10ish to 5ish and when we told the receptionist he just assured us he wouldn't start to early or keep us up in the evening. Is a lovely hotel and so nice to have the garden and the pool however could do with a few extras... The bathroom window was only covered with a thin curtain so at night we felt people may be able to see us! The door had gaps at the bottom which let Mosquitos in! Beds were a bit hard. Other than that we had all we needed in the room, it was lovely and spacious with real cosy Indian decor. First night we missed the entertainment as we were not told about it however what we saw from our window looked good! Food was ok, we didn't get to try much as fell ill through the heat. Staff were all very smiley and friendly, especially the manager who got involved with everything:)
Easy to walk to local shops or atm machines.... or get a tuk tuk which is an experience! Would stay there again, in season!

What a great introduction to the Shekawati area! Mandawa Haveli has had a tasteful restoration and really sets the scene for the area. Beds were comfortable, bathroom a touch grimy, but acceptable and the interior courtyard was really fab. Ate out at night, but the experience of the restaurant for breakfast was not so good - smelled bad although the service was fine. Nice young man on the desk took us for a walk round the village havelis in the evening and showed us inside quite a few - interesting and enjoyable trip. Only marred by the obligatory stop at his 'uncles' store. Young man had been so kind, felt pressure to buy even though the merchandise was kind of boring and not very attractive. Wished we'd been more effective at turning that 'opportunity' down. Otherwise highly recommended.

Room Tip: We chose a first floor room although it was quite small because it had 3 beds. Third bed was really...

This was the first hotel we stayed in in Rajastan at the start of a 3 week holiday. and it was a very good beginning. It's a lovely place, well restored. Unfortunately, when we were there in February the weather was very cold, and there is no heating in the rooms, but the staff happily provided extra blankets. And if it's a choice between staying in a modern heated hotel and an unheated one this full of history - history wins everytime!

As others have said the staff tended to be a bit elusive, but when found were very helpful.

I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the food - it was perfectly edible, but not a patch on the delicious food at Monica's restaurant

Mandawa itself is fascinating, full of history and lots more havelis (unfortunately many crumbling)

(ghost not included) This is a stunning place. Like sleeping somewhere 400 years ago. Each room is different, so ask to see a selection to choose the one you like best. I was on the upper floor.
The decoration of the building is magnificent. The staff are charming. A dream if you like heritage and authenticity.
Avoid the restaurant.

A lovely place to stay full of character and charm. The staff were pleasant, rooms were clean and the restaurant was ok. It was great to sit around the fire in the central courtyard after dinner sharing a beer and experiences with other guests. The roof top restaurant with entertainers was another plus. We stayed in January and it was bitterly cold at night so be sure to ask for extra blankets! The town itself wasn't up to much but some of the buildings were interesting.

It's one of the best maintained havelis in the area. They haven't overdone the restoring and yet have made it quite comfortable and that's probably because its owner is a restorer himself. It's mid size haveli with big rooms that are well painted with Krishna as a central theme.

The food choice is limited but quality is good and service is superb. The hotel manager (Rakesh Ji) is also a helpful guy who guided us for our day trips to other parts of Shekhawati. The first day we got late and thus even though dinner wasn't planed we had no option to eat there. We told him about it about an hour in advance and he arranged it all despite his staff had left for the day.

Tip: Use Mandawa as a base if you want to explore Shekhawati as it's centrally located.

Room Tip: We statyed at Rosesh and it's a great room - quite big and well Royal!
