“Hotels in mandawa”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

The first time I stayed at Hotel Shekhawati was in September 2012. The hotel is in an ideal location 5 mins walking distance from the main market. The rooms and the decor provide a relaxing experience with a roof terrace for morning and evening dining. The terrace provides not only beautiful views of the town but also the ancient fort and surrounding countryside. Rooms vary in price but even the most expensive room is affordable for back-packing tourist. The artwork and colourful paintings are a pleasure to look at time and time again. The friendly helpful staff not only help make your stay in Mandawa more comfortable but they also offer advice on local tours and attractions. I have visited Mandawa a few times now and each time my first stop has always been Hotel Shekhawti, its like a home from home.

Room Tip: The staff will accommodate to whatever your needs are.

This hotel it's a very nice place for art lovers. There are traditional colorful paintings all over the walls and you can actually see the artist paint live. Great terrace on the rooftop to have breakfast and dinner. A walking distance from the shops and main attractions. Kind personnel. Not expensive.

This hotel is very good (price/quality), the rooms are clean, the hallway is painted beautifully and you can sit on the terrace outside of your room or on the rooftop terrace. I definitely recommend it!

It is just a stopover in Mandawa, a house turned into a motel.
All the rooms have been painted in the last few years, so all the photos you see cannot give you the correct picture of this house.
Positves
- The Manager is a good and resourceful guy.
-The laal maans is the only good thing to eat here and done well.
-It is good only for a night over, only if you really need to stay in Mandawa.
Negatives
-To reach the motel from the main market, it is a dirty filthy and garbage filled road ride. Extremely narrow lanes. Cannot be walked as they are filthy.
- The house turned motel has no USP value as such, drawing are random and real original fresco.
-They are very basic and elementary.
-Please don;t get mislead by the pictures you see.

Hotel Shekhawati, Mandawa
A family run hotel, which will go out of the way to make your stay comfortable. Mandawa is a place to visit if u want to see painted frescos, havelis (house of erstwhile zamindars). The town is small, dingy, and dirty. However if u have travelled rest of rajasthan, and looking for a budget weekend getaway ex delhi, then u can head there.
The entrance approach to the hotel is very narrow and dirty, and really puts your mood off. You can see men urinating in the open, open drains, filth, etc. However once you are inside the hotel, which is like a haveli, you feel betterr off. The rooms are all hand painted with some basic storyline...like a king meeting a woman, getting married, having a child, etc. Some paintings are graffic, and are covered by a curtain :-) they serve food on the terrace. Mutton curry spicy is the best thing they make. Have it with chapatis(indian bread). Rest of the food is passable. In the night it feels better as you dont see the filth around, and sitting on the terrace is good fun in winter.
What sets the place apart is the owner- Mr. Pramod Parekh. I have never seen anyone going so much out of the way to help make the staying experience of his guests better. I wish he was the town mayor and could also clean up the Mandawa town. Rooms and linen are clean, and there is running hot water, and a basic TV set. Its advisable to carry your own soap, shampoo, snacks and alcohol, etc. The staff in the hotel are rustic and they run around the whole day to try their best in serving the guests. Kitchen staff served us through the evening and never said no to anything that we aksed for, from their indian kitchen. Dont expect or ask for the moon, and this budget hotel wont disappoint you. And if you are a big group of friends, I recommend this property for a budget weekend getaway from Delhi.

Room Tip: Room 110 and 123 probably are the best one as they are large rooms in size, but there is hardly much...

Mandawa was the first stop on a 12 day driving tour of Rajasthan and we were taken there by our driver so we didn’t have a chance to compare the hotel with other places. The first and lasting impression of the place are the lovely murals painted on pretty much every wall, inside and out. The building is a bit of a rabbit warren spread over 3-4 floors but this only added to the charm. The rooftop area was wonderful as there are great views over much of the town… it was a great spot to have breakfast. The food was pretty good although the kitchen is tiny and it took a long time for our dinner to arrive. This was probably because there was only one person cooking and serving and the other group eating at the same time as us seemed very demanding. The room was an average size and very clean although the bathroom was probably larger than it needed to be. The hotel arranged a guide for a tour of the havelis which was enjoyable although they were a little too pushy about taking a guide saying there are many buildings you can’t get too without one. I don’t think this is true. The guides work on a “pay what you think its worth” system which means you will always be made to feel guilty no matter how much you pay. I paid Rs.200 for two hours and I’m sure he was hoping for more although, and this is unusual for India, he didn’t ask for it.
