“Our Stay at Bhitarkanika is a True Jungle Experience !!!”
Reviewed July 22, 2011

Our stay for Two days & One night at the Bhitarkanika National Park was an amazing experience. The Nature Trails & Jungle Creeks, Crocodiles, Birds, Water Monitor Lizards & lots more to explore in the Amazons of Orissa ( Odisha ). Our stay in the Luxurious Swiss Tents ( by www.bhitarkanikatour.com ) at "Nature Camp" resort run by a private tour operator was really wonderful.

“Bhitar Kanika Sanctuary: a wonder in the wild.”
Reviewed November 25, 2008

Away from the blinding lights and deafening sound, Bhitarakanika is a different world altogether, a real retreat in the lap of nature. Once in here, I saw the world outside virtually disappear.

Extending over more than six hundred square kilometres, it is one of the very few evergreen repository of most luxuriant mangrove vegetation in the world. Great varieties of mangrove plants are found here which provide home to a variety of rare and endangered species.

Bounded by rivers on the three sides and the sea on the fourth, Bhitarkanika is criss crossed by numerous creeks and canals which finally meet the sea and make the estuarine delta, which is why movement inside the sanctuary is through water routes only. When the tide enters, the forest floats and the water kisses the foliage, it's a sight to watch.

Bhitarakanika is a natural habitat of a lot of wild creatures like Crocodiles, King Cobra, Pythons, Wild Pigs, Monkey, Sambars, Spotted Deer etc. White Crocodile Sankhua, a rare species in the World can also be seen at a farm nearby.

Bhitarkanika provides a home for over 170 species of resident and migratory birds like King Fisher, Open billed Storks, Sea Eagles, Kites, Sand Pipers etc. The chirping of birds is sure to leave an indelible impression anyone's mind. Overall I would say, its the most unique & fascinating wildlife sanctuary i ever visited, providing an excellent opportunity to relax with friends & family amidst the serenity of nature.

Permission to visit Bhitarakanika can be obtained from Divisional Forest Officer, Rajnagar.

Bhitarakanika can be approached only through water ways. I entered through Rajnagar (30 km from Kendrapara and 130 km from Bhubaneswar).
