We were 2 women travelling on work and this was our first visit to Nagaland. Also considering there is a lack of information on hotels in Dimapur, we did have a sense of trepidation. However, to our relief, we found that the hotel was quite ok. We got a clean room and a clean bathroom. If you intend to travel to Dimapur, following are things you will have to be ready for:
a. there is a major electricity problem and 80% of the time there is no electricity. The hotel has a generator so basic lights, tv and fans will work but the AC will not.
b. Vegetarian food is available but we did the wise thing of asking the hotel staff to recommend the dishes. The food was prepared with care and was very delicious. So moral of the stroy, let them prepare whatever they are confident in rather than demanding something that they may not be well versed with although its on the menu.
c. Non veg - it would be wise to ask them in detail what meat your dish contains. so that you know exactly what you will get as the locals are very experimentative in the meats that they eat.
d. Do not go in expecting the kind of standards that you may be used to in a city like even Kolkata. For Dimapur, this was definitely one of the better, cleaner options.
e. The staff is extremely helpful and polite. So do not hesitate to check with them on auto fares, place assistance or anything else that you may need help with. They will guide you well.
f. the locals eat dinner early. In some cases, even by 6 p.m so check with the hotel on last orders so that you can plan accordingly.
g. carry a mosquito repellant cream etc as sometimes at night the electricity goes and the genset also doesnt come on and the mosquitoes (there are quite a few in the city) aim straight for you.
