“Nice place for weekend getaway”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2012

We visited this resort in April 2012 for a weekend getaway for the family. The resort has fairly large rooms as well as individual cottages. Rooms are fairly clean and well outfitted. The restaurant is decent and food is freshly made to order. Mealtimes are a pleasant experience, seated in the resort's sprawling garden. The staff is exceptionally helpful and go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. The resort, and Amboli itself, is ideal for a short getaway from the daily grind. One can enjoy long walks in the sylvan woods or breathtaking sunsets from the many viewing points.

The location is decent.the food is good and the rooms are clean. The staff are helpful although they dont know very much about anything that a tourist requires. There isnt much to do or see around. Its advisable to stop for a meal rather than waste funds booking a room.
The roads towards the various points are in a bad condition. Take note that there is no mechanic available in this place....if anything were to happen to your vehicle...it has to be towed atleast 50km to be fixed.
A new manager could make a noticeable difference to the way the place runs. Family activities or indoor games could be added.

Room Tip: there best tip is not to book a room...just stop for a meal and carry on to your destination....

We visited this place in second week of August 2011. We took ST bus from sawantwadi and told the conductor to stop near green valley. He stopped the bus exactly near the green valley signboard and from there we had to walk some 200 metres to reach the hotel.
We had booked the Deluxe Non AC rooms for 3days/2nights. As we had gone in rainy season so we didn't book the AC rooms. The rooms were ok. All the basic things were provided there with decent bathrooms and hot water.
The hotel is having small garden with few variety of flowers. The atmosphere near the hotel was misty and foggy. At some times it was so foggy that you cannot see a person in front of you more than 20m. We enjoyed this experience.
The restaurant is small but had good Chinese as well as sea food. The two days i had lot of fried fishes which were good in taste. Don't forget to have solkadi. In Breakfast cheese sandwiches were too good at reasonable rates.
There are no ATM's in Amboli so make sure that you have enough cash. Nearest ATM is at sawantwadi. The hotel staff doesn't accept any cards(Debit/Credit). The hotel accepts funds transfer to hotel bank account. There is one internet cafe near the hotel on main road.
While strolling in the premises i had three leeches hanging around my foot. Though it was not paining but when i removed those leeches blood was coming out from my foot. I haven't seen so much of my blood flowing out from my foot in my whole life. The flow was continuously so then i called the manager and told about the leeches. The attendants came promptly with turmeric and bandages.
I visited the places Hiranyakashi temple, 2 more temples which i don't remember but one temple was of ganapati. These temples are very old and worth a visit. Then went to mahadev gad. It was so foggy that we couldn't see anything. Lot of youngsters were racing on their bikes halfly drunk.
The resort had arranged a auto for roaming around amboli to watch sightseeing. Make you sure you bargain for auto. Approximately the auto took 300 Rs for three spots. Next day had gone to amboli falls. It was one of the best waterfall. Just imagine the clear white water gushing out from the spiral steps to climb at top. We climbed up through spiral stair cases though intially resisting. The water current was high. While reaching top enjoyed waterfall, clicked photos and then spending half hour we descended down.
Overall good destination and had good time.

Room Tip: AC and non AC deluxe rooms are good and better than others.

Green Valley Resorts is located at Amboli (Maharashtra, India), a hill station, 30 kms from Sawantwadi off Mumbai-Goa highway on the Belgaum Road.

Green Valley Resorts is the erstwhile MTDC Resort now under private management and renovated. The rooms are not luxurious but average, however you will still enjoy the place and resort and the property of resort is very big.

Room Tip: Rooms on the on top are the best to stay

Green Valley is just like any other MTDC resort. WHile I belive now it is no longer being managed by MTDC, the remnants of an era gone by are strongly apparent. Rooms are in shambles, the linen is dirty and smells and bathrooms are poorly maintained. Though there is ample parking, it is not built properly and is very uneven. The entire resort is very poorly lit. This lends a very eerie feeling and one does not feel like roaming around at night. This was a major downer for an otherwise beautiful property.

Probably the only thing worth mentioning here is the food, which is good.

First of all, Amboli is a tiny little hill station on the Belgaum-Sawantwadi road and one of the highest rainfall destination in Maharashtra. Since Amboli itself is a small village, the hill station is not yet commercialized like other famous hill-stations. But, it's a very nice, relaxing place. If you want to spend your vacation just for relaxation, there is no better place than this. You will be very close to nature. This is the first hill-station I saw where all the points were named after Indian names and not british names.
Now about the MTDC resort. Since this is a small village, there are not much options available. This is the best of the lot. Rooms are not great. But then you should not go with high expectation. If you keep this in mind, you will enjoy the place. The resort is safe for children. Lawn is nice. Food is good. The staff was very courteous. We had our small 1.5yrs son with us and they provided all the required meals for him. There is also Kamath's restaurant near to sunset point.
Overall, it's a very nice relaxing place away from crowd, pollution and work...

The only better option in Amboli.

Amboli is a small hill station near Sawantwadi & is know for amazing weather during late monsoons.

We had booked this hotel online from the MTDC website for a 3 day stay. The hotel has average rooms with not so great upkeep, however the location makes it worthwhile & otherwise there is no other option around.

The restaurant for food was OK just like any other MTDC resort with a small decent menu. The food was good & the service comparable to other MTDC run places.

All in all, choose this place if you want to goto Amboli & enjoy the weather not the hotel.

Room Tip: Book early, atleast a month in advance
