This is a must visit place near Mahabaleshwar, especially during rains. This historic fort Pratabgad is almost 1 hour drive from main Mahabaleshwar town.
One can hire a cab from Mahabaleshwar ST stand for Rs.1000 (entire cab for 4 travellers) for Pratabgad darshan. Alternatively, you can also make bookings for Pratabgad Darshan from Mahabaleshwar ST Government Bus costing hardly Rs. 130 per head.
Since we were only two people travelling together, costing prospective we took second option. Govt. Bus has two tour one is Pratapgad darshan in morning 9.15AM and Mahabaleshwar darshan in noon 2.15PM.
Bookings for both tours need to be done a day prior, same day bookings would certainly be a dicey situation. Conductor of the bus himself is guide for Pratabgad Darshan and very jovial person.
Recently, the localites of mahabaleshwar have created Shivaji – era artificial village, promoting handicrafts and artefacts on the way to Pratabgad. They charge Rs.30 per head to explore and take photographs. If you are fond of clicking pictures, you’ll definitely love it.
The fort is still a private property and owned by descends of Shivaji Maharaj even today. That’s the reason why; there are no entry charges to visit this fort. Even today the daily functions and routine activities of the fort are carried out as it was done 300 years ago.
As of today, there are many food stalls and refreshment options available inside the fort. A glass of chilled chaas (matka actually) is definitely not worth missing!!!
