Saguna Baug
Reviewed October 9, 2010

we visited saguna baug on a weekday, and booked into the pond house, its the best thing in SB. the owners were rather busy and so inspite of asking the agro tour didnot materialise. swimming, boldly advertised in the website is best avoided as ulhas river is rather polluted and not recommended for swimming. all the info boards about varioustrees are in marathi so non marathis if interested can feel left out. One must plan to go for a nights stay and that too in the pond house only.

Saguna Baug is situated at 4 kms from Neral station. Its the best example of agro tourism. Saguna Baug is having an area of 55 acres & the farm is surrounded by Ulhas river from three sides. One can see Matgheran from the baug.
The owners are staying in the farm only. So they pay individual attention to your needs. All the staff is very cooperative. Food quality is excellent ( both veg & nonveg). Moreover all the fooditems are from the farm only. We enjoyed all the activities such as bullock cart riding, swimming, fishing, boating etc. The fish catching session was very interesting. We got an opportunity to see many fishes such as Tilipia, Cyprenuss.
Cottages are very basic but attractively built. Most important part is that they dont allow alcohol so you can leisurey enjoy a familly outing.
So Saguna baug is really a paradise found.

Saguna Baug is a great place to go to in the monsoon season and is a true blue farm holiday. Our group had people aged 2 1/2 to 70 and we managed to book our stay at the "pond house." This is a great property for families, school picnics and couples. THEY DO NOT ALLOW ALCOHOL at the property and this helps in keeping a weekend as clean as possible.

The nice stuff - a HUGE farm with a river, fishing, ponds, boating, fields growing various crops, a gobar gas plant (first time I have really seen one) a cowshed where you can actually see them getting milked and all of this in under 100 kms from Mumbai.

The owners are wonderful people who are happy to show you around and at the same time respect your privacy. They will be most happy to arrange for a farm trip and also take the various questions taken up. I remember seeing a session taken on snakes as well as a "meet and greet" with the snake where you could actually hold the reptile. There is also active fish farming and all the food you eat is grown at this very farm.

The pond house, where we stayed, has 2 rooms which open up into a open living area (with 2 indoor swings facing each other) surrounded by the pond. The care taker will be happy to arrange for local fishing rods and bait. The pond house is away from all other accommodation and therefore allows for privacy and solitude. The stay is very SPARTAN but clean enough to remind you of your college day travel when you pretty much had to go "budget." So are the rates as of today and I think this cant be priced better. There is no TV, though we did get the papers in the morning. Electricity and hot water are available 24/7.

Areas of improvement are: Better Pillows and dustbins in the loo are needed.
