Last weekend we stayed at Rafferty's Resort in Lake MacQuarie near Newcastle. We had a great two bedroom cottage with two bathrooms and a great little verandah and full use of all resort facilities, which include 4 pools, one of which is heated, undercover and has a great spa attached, as well as a BBQ inside the enclosure. Heated pool and spa were fantastic. There are also tennis courts, mini put put and boat hire as well as child's activity centre. They also have massage and beauty facilities.

Breakfast in the morning is to die for, you have a choice of Continental Breakfast for $15.00, but we had the Full Breakfast for $24.00, well worth it, with a choice of bacon, eggs (scrambled or poached), tomatoes, sausages, hash browns as well as a choice of the fantastic fruits, cererals and pastries available with the continental breakfast, toast (white, wholemeal, multigrain and fruit bread), coffee, tea and varied juices.

They also have a fantastic restaurant, Al Lago's, which is available for dine in or takeaway. They have a great selection of pizza, pasta and seafood dishes as well as the mouth watering entree's, you really have to try the beetroot tart with goat's cheese and the bruschetta, yum. The restaurant is also available to the public not just those staying at the resort and well worth a look, so do your taste buds a big favour and at least give it a try and make sure you book ahead of time.

The resort and restaurant are also available for weddings and functions.

There is a minimum stay of two nights during off season and five nights during peak season. It cost us $199.00 a night for accommodation, but was well worth it, it really is a beautiful place to relax, unwind and explore.

Room Tip: All accommodation is self contained, with a choice of two and three bedroom cottages as well as terr...

Attended a beautiful wedding and stayed in No. 605. Returned after the wedding at 10pm to find there was no hot water, reception was closed. We contacted them at 8am the next morning but still hadn't seen anyone by 10am so checked out. We had no hot water for the entire time of our stay so were unable to shower! Later I sent an email advising of our disappointment and now they are trying to tell us that there was nothing wrong with the hot water, it's not instantaneous. What rubbish! we ran the taps for over 5 minutes and it wasn't even beginning to get warm.......no offer forthcoming for any type of compensation - will not stay again.

Management response:Responded June 27, 2012

Thank you for taking the time to write of your experience. Sorry to hear of your experience.

The property you stayed in 605 is not part of the Mercure Lake Macquarie Raffertys Resort organisation. The property is managed and let by an external agent who has no affiliation with our business. You would have booked your accommodation through that agent's website and you need to refer your complaint to them. That particular business has no on site presence.

We offer out of hours service for issues such as he one you experienced for the properties we manage (over 100) but have no arrangements to deal with maintenance issues for other agents.

Kind Regards
David

The website is definitely done by a pro because the real resort does not look as good as in the pic (or are the resorts all the same?). The room which is a two bedroom townhouse with ensuites is basic to the dot. The quality is not more than 3-star, more like 2.5. The food is AWFUL, overcooked, oily, the veggies are not fresh but the restaurant service is excellent. For which very fortunate to offset the disapointment from the food.

Apart from the accommodation (we were lucky, we stayed in one of the better apartments) and surrounding gardens the resort falls so below par Mecure should be ashamed. The resort is a franchise. Breakfast..(if you can call it that) has to be the poorest I have experienced in living memory from any hotel or resort. The poor old staff are woefully overwhelmed but credit to them they manage to retain a smile whilst they attempt to find a table to actually seat you! The food is basic and avoid the so called Italian restaurant....crazily over priced and bland and when you examine the surrounds would only just pass off as a cafe. Pizza was undercooked and certainly nothing that fresh about it. Pasta had no taste what so ever. Run down place...and not surprisingly we weren't even asked on checking out whether we had enjoyed the stay.
