We visited Kielder Bird of Prey Centre last week and were overcome by the attentiveness, kindness and patience of Ray and his colleagues. Our 10 year old son is a nature lover and staff encouraged him by taking the time to listen to his interests and then add to his knowledge. We had hoped to do a hawk walk but they are not offered at this time of year due to the weather. However, we were not disappointed as both our 7 and 10 year old were given the opportunity to hold and feed the birds and other animals and felt very special as a consequence. We have visited many such establishments and this one had the best variety of birds. I can highly recommend a visit. Thank you.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of Kielder Water Bird of Prey Centre in our school.
Ray and some girl brought with them a variety of birds of which the children could hold and some they could stroke. The flow a Kestrel and a Barn owl. In total they spoke to over 200 pupils, all of which had a great time. I have never heard them so quiet.
Excellent stuff

We visited Kielder Water Bird of Prey Centre whilst on our hunny moon and loved it! We spent the day in the area and dropped in and out of the centre three times. (Ticket valid all day) The first visit we wandered around and looked at all the beautiful birds and rabbits, deer and wallabies! We came back later for a display and met the fantastical pelicans who came out for a wander and Nikki held several birds, including a juvenile barn owl!
We came back a third time for the final display of the day and enjoyed a hot chocolate as the birds flew about.

The staff were extremely informative and cheerful and made us feel welcome on each visit!

We would come again!!

My partner and I are both photographers and animal enthusiasts, and were blown away by the attitude of the staff here.

Firstly and most importantly, the birds are cared for by people who love them and in flying displays the birds are never pressured to perform - one bird (the eagle I think) didn't come to the front of her enclosure when prompted to fly, and they announce that it's always up to the birds and if they don't feel like coming out to fly for a treat they don't, and so they let her be.
All the enclosures are extremely clean and well built, the birds have lots of land to fly over and are well accustomed to people. I got to hold one of the owls who was absolutely beautiful!

After watching the main display we had moved off to observe the other birds in their individual hides/areas, and a member of staff approached me to say she'd noticed we were keen photographers and wondered if we'd be interested in a private photographers' event - a lovely idea! A couple of the guys caring for the birds also chatted to us and let us come see two of the tiny young owls they were busy looking after who were just getting accustomed to lots of people. They were so attentive and caring with the birds, it is fantastic to see and I won't hesitate to visit again when we're back in Kielder.
