Lydney Park Spring Gardens are, as the name would suggest, open only for a few weeks each Spring.Owned and still lived in by the Bathurst family, this hidden gem has the ruins of a Roman camp complete with temple to Nodens, a woodland garden of oaks, beeches and chestnuts carpeted in bluebells, a deer park, a museum and tearoom all perched on a hill overlooking the River Severn. On sunny days it would be a glorious place for a picnic - and all for £4! On the way out it is worth having a look around the Coinros Garden Centre and Taurus Crafts which often also has a local food market.
