Having read previous reviews and having some expectation of what would be on offer , the reality at Gurkha Restaurant in Lydney whilst very pleasant was a little disappointing. The dishes on offer were predominantly just your standard Indian offering and very little Gurkha specialities. The dishes we ordered were well cooked and nicely presented and ultimately tasted really good. The waiting staff were somewhat attentive but for a very quiet Thursday night with only 5/6 tables occupied, it did take some time to be acknowledged at reception and when seated, it took a while to get our drinks order. As this restaurant is in a 70's style pub, it did lack atmosphere with very rigidly placed tables in one main room with a few tables in a raised area. The open kitchen was good to see the food being prepared but general decoration was quite dated and could do with a bit of an overhaul Overall a very pleasant meal but to live up to its name, more Gurkha specialities would have improved our dining experience.
