We booked a room here to explore the Forest of Dean and it was huge and the bed was very comfortable and very clean. The staff were very helpful. I thought it a bit odd that if extra teabags sugar etc was needed a charge of 20p each was required. We bought a box of teabags from Tesco! We will stay there again if in the area - it was good to have a fridge in the room.
We recommend anyone to stay here if you get the chance.

Having just visited the Lake District and planning our homeward journey I thought we might stop off in Wales for 1 night and found this Motel in Lydney which is on the outskirts of the Forest of Dean.
We were welcomed enthusiastically by Phi and Phyliss who own the place . It is very new but built to a very high spec. the rooms were very large and very clean with everything an overnight traveller could want , big comfortable bed , decent shower and plenty of room to put your luggage, and also for people travelling with pets, this place also caters for them ( pets can stay in the room at small cost ).
Although the motel does not have any dining functions there are a number of good pubs nearby that can cater for this .In the morning if you book it you can have a continental breakfast delivered to your room, and the contents should last you till evening.
We would highly recommend this Motel for anybody travelling and visiting the Forest of Dean

I stayed here initially for 3 nights and then extended to 5. It really is a gem of a place. I am a single mum with 6 year old and it felt very safe. The place was spotless, the staff were very helpful and we would stay here again.

Lydney advertises itself as the gateway to the Forest of Dean, so it's a pity it didn't have anywhere much to stay until this motel was built at the western end of the town.

Four of us stayed four nights during a family history hunt. We had a warm welcome and were shown to adjoining spacious and spotless rooms. The beds were comfortable, with pristine white duvets and lovely deep, soft pillows. The hospitality tray was well-stocked. So was the bathroom, where the shower worked well even if it wasn't that powerful. We were shown how to use it. The towels were white and fluffy along with the face flannels. A rubber bath mat was provided for inside the shower, but there was no towelling mat for the bathroom floor. We also took a while to work out how the sink plug worked, but it did.

In the bedroom, you also get a TV that works, a round table and two chairs as well as a dressing table. We would say there was just enough drawer space and coathangers for two people for four nights.

You can park right by your front door (bonnets facing the rooms only, so no exhaust pong) which is handy when it rains, and the remote control door cards are much easier than those push-in cards you get in many hotels - but don't forget to give the card back when you leave or it will cost you £100!

Although the motel is on the main road, the rooms are mostly side-on, and as Lydney now has a by-pass we heard hardly any noise. The benches to sit outside your room under a canopy are a nice touch, and the grounds include plenty of well-tended flowers and shrubs.

The rooms were efficiently serviced by polite staff, who also brought an ample continental breakfast punctually each day. Although this breakfast costs an extra fiver per person, it is good value, with fruit juice, fresh fruit, yoghurt, plenty of toast kept warm by cloth napkins, choice of preserves, and choice of pre-ordered cereals and tea or coffee including a decaf option.

The room rate in our opinion is extremely good value. At 15 minutes' drive from the M48 at Chepstow or just over half an hour from Gloucester, this motel deserves plenty of custom whether for business, tourism or local weddings or just an overnight stopover.

If you eat locally, Lydney is up-coming for food including an excellent restaurant called the Ugly Duckling at the side of the Swan pub, a new curry house called the King's in the main Hill Street, both about 10 minutes' stroll, and Joshua's a little further along in the main road, whilst only a mile out of town at Aylburton there's the George Inn, where you'd better book, especially for the Sunday carvery.

Although Lydney itself isn't exactly scenic, its people in our experience are polite and friendly, and its position between the Severn and the Forest is a plus. There's a restored medieval cross almost opposite the motel, a substantial parish church, a picturesque and historic dock, and on certain days a steam railway, whilst in two or three minutes you're in the Forest of Dean, one of the most picturesque tracts in all England and yet strangely unsung.

Room Tip: Room 1 is nearest the main road, but the other rooms mostly on the ground floor are much of a muchne...

The DeanGate Motel stands out with its high standards. There is ample parking and our room was spacious and spotlessly clean, with tea and coffee making facilities, a table with two chairs, and a flat-screen TV with full Freeview. Although close to a sometimes-busy road, it is well soundproofed and we enjoyed undisturbed sleep in the large and comfortable single beds. The bathroom is quite roomy, with a hand and bath towel and face cloth (rare these days) for each guest, plus tissues and mini shampoos, but you will need to provide your own soap for the shower. Breakfast, served in your room, on the dot, at a time of your choosing, is freshly made with a choice of cereals, tea or coffee, toast, butter, marmalade or jam, yoghurt, orange juice and fresh fruit, and is excellent value for money. The only improvement that could be made is for the coffee to be fresh, rather than instant.

Room Tip: Room 1 is nearest the road, so higher numbers are less likely to suffer from road noise.

Having stayed for four nights I can't rate the Deansgate Motel highly enough. Lovely well appointed rooms, large TV, WiFi, power shower, tea coffee etc with beautiful crisp linen sheets and lovely comfortable bed. We stayed here after reading the reviews on T.A. so had high expectations - that were exceeded! The hotel team were always on hand (without being obtrusive) friendly and welcoming, they are clearly passionate about providing a level of customer service that is second to none. As for the location - perfect! Local amenities (tesco + petrol and cash machine, pubs food outlets, launderette and high street) on your door step and for anybody who wants to explore the Forest of Dean, Chepstow, Monmouth (to name a few) this really is a great base. you are only a few miles from most attractions and walks (Symonds Yat, Offa's Dyke etc) it really is a great location and it was joy to come "home" to the Deansgate Motel after a days walking and exploring - and it's pet friendly too! I (we) will be returning very soon 5 + stars! Ps if you're looking for a nice welcoming pub with Sky Sports which is dog and child friendly offering lovely home cooked Sunday lunches and a good selection of food, the Cross Keys is a two minute walk across the road. Great staff and very friendly locals!
