“Poor customer service”
Reviewed December 12, 2012

We stayed for one night 7th December 2012. We booked 4 rooms for our party. Rooms clean, spacious and modern. Just showers-no bath. Where was the problem. Well, my daughter(in her 30's) was in a room on her own. She had a problem with the kettle and the handle got broken. It was lucky that she did not get scolded for which the motel would have been liable. She was honest and informed reception. Then it started. Aggressive, rude and objectional. They demanded a payment of £70 for the kettle+£6 same day delivery cost. What!! The dispute lasted for some time, but we refused to pay. The next stage they called the police but they did not turn up (they must have had a good laugh at the station at being called out for a broken kettle). Eventually we gave our name, address, phone number and left. TIP:- do not have any accidents with the room fitments.

When you wright a review make sure that you tell the truth. Also when somthing happens in the room do not lie and say what happen exectaly so the owner then can come to a decision. What your daughter said in the morning to the lady at check-out is, that the handle had fallen off which seems very unlikly in a brand new hotel. Then I had a look at what happen and found the kettle broken, I waited for you to come from breakfast and put you in reception and asked you what happend exectly so I could come to a responsable conclusion, and then the story changed and your daughter said that see dropped it. Know we found a piece of plastic in the bathroom so that means that see went to fill up the kettle from the bathroom and dropped it so she could not have got scolded because she would have cold water in the kettle unless she likes to have her cup off tea/coffee in the toilet. If you would have told the truth straight away I would have put that down as an accident and the story would have ended there and it is not my fault that we put good tea and coffee making facilites in the rooms. They are expensive because they are top quality. The police did come and I am glad you think it's funny that we went to them because if you where still there when they come you would not have liked what they said. At the end off the day if you did not lie to me it would have been nothing and I could have closed one eye because you left the rooms spottles which I was very very pleased about. (Oh and the prices for the kettle are : £69.95 and for delivery £4.75 and it is not same day delivery unfortunately you have to wait one week.) :/

My one night stay was a strange experience, Nice clean comfortable room although the heating was not adequate. Room phone not working, free wifi in room not working, hot water intermittent. After a long travelling day to reach there for an event which went on into the wee small hours I was looking forward to a late start and told that check out time was 11.00am. Awoken at 0900hrs by loud knocking on my door, asked if I was Mrs ??? who I was not! I find it rather worrying that the hotel do not know which guests were in which room... is this not a legal requirement??? Perhaps this was a ploy to get rid of guests rather earlier than was necessary as they seemed to be departing themselves. I was then rushed out of the premises with the offer of a lift to the train station and finally dropped at a bus stop. It seemed helpful at the time but in fact there was no bus for at least 2 hours. Perhaps they should keep a timetable for guests. Overpriced at £69 I conclude.

Thankyou for taking the time to review DeanGate Motel but I think I might need to explain a few things. If you have any problems in the room we tell our guests to come and tell us in reception so we can fix them stright away. As far as I know you did not tell me anything about the things you mentioned. Our checkout time is 10.30am and is even listed in the booklet you have in the room. Regards the lift to the train station we tried to help you as much as possible since your friends just left you behind and the time tabel could be found at the bustop across the road.

Located within easy reach of the Forst of Dean this motel is on the outskirts of Lydney, easily found and within walking distance of the town centre and Tescos. Loads of parking space, very neat and clean exterior. Friendly reception. Room a good size and very tastefully furnished in neutral colours. Lighting is all ecofriendly so takes a while to warm up. Free wifi. Beds very comfortable. Tea tray. Continental Breakfast is optional extra at £5 a head very good value. Cannot fault it.

We stayed the weekend (room 10), and were more than surprised to find the positive quality of the accommodation. Very well fitted out. Cleanliness to a maximum. And staff that were positively welcoming. Lydney itself is seeming a bit 'run down'. Like many town Highstreets. But there's a huge telly in each room to pass the night away. Handy place too for visits to the local Iron-ore mine caves, Raglan castle etc.
Breakfast was available at £5 a head. I was rather disappointed to discover later, this was just for a 'continental' delivered to your room. But the disappointment ended there. It was really substantial. And we realised there's a continental ' continental'. But this was obviously the English version. Well done DeansGate. Thank you.

We wanted a 3 night R & R break, and so chose Deangate. What a good choice! Really friendly family owned business. We had an executive room, which was really big, had a nice ensuite and really comfy bed. It was spotlessly clean, very neat and tidy. It is quite a new property so all the decor is smart and modern, no sign of any wear and tear. We paid about £190 for 3 nights over August bank holiday, and were really pleased. It was a great base for exploring the forest of dean. Lydney itself is not somewhere you would typically choose to go for a break, but there are lots of things close by. The small town does have all the basic amenities you would expect though. We had a great meal one night nearby in Whitecroft at the Miners Arms. Modern cypriot style food. Spent one of the days cycling the excellent 12 mile forest family trail in the forest of dean, having hired bikes from Dean Forest Cycles in Parkend. Overall a really good stay, made great by the fact that we had somewhere really relaxing to go home too at the end of the day.

Room Tip: We paid £10 extra a night for an exec room, which was massive really, and I think you get a bigger b...

Stayed here for one night on 10th Oct, only one word to describe it, PERFECT.
As one reviewer commented there's nowhere in Lydney town to have a nice meal, but if you like Indian food there is a nice restaurant five minutes away, or the Cross Inn is just up the road in Aylburton, they do nice food, also the George Inn nearby.
Highly recommended, would stay here again.

Beautifully kept and presented motel with very attentive owners / staff. The three of us chose to share a room, and my disabled friends little dogs, Bella and Bessie were made very welcome too. The room was plenty big enough for all of us and even an electric wheelchair! It was extremely clean and tasteful decor throughout. The breakfast (£5 each extra per person per day) was well worth it and delivered with a smile, to our room every day.
The ensuite shower room had an excellent large shower cubicle, the only suggestion I would make is that a grab rail,( in chrome perhaps to match the other fixings), wouldn't go amiss even for the able bodied person as the shower space is so large. Again all beautifully clean.
Excellent base to explore the Forest of Dean and surrounding countryside. I would definately stay again.
