“Expensive and bad service”
Reviewed July 8, 2014 via mobile

Just don't visit this restaurant...you will pay five times more than in a normal restaurant and the food is absolutely nothing special. The service is exceptionally bad. We waited 30 min for our drinks even though we were alone in the restaurant. We did not have napkins. No glasses for the water. The dirty plates stood on the table forever after we finished eating. I wouldn't mind if the food were amazing, but it was no more than average. Not worth the money!!

“Disappointing”
Reviewed June 29, 2014

The positive is the location and decor of the restaurant. It is part of a complex of heritage buildings promoting traditional crafts; the restaurant interior is attractive. As it was relatively early in the evening, I joined diners on the external balcony, with lovely views over parts of Dilijan.

I started with a soup that promised a mix of vegetables and grains. The serving was small, without any bread, and it was pretty forgettable.

I followed with a dish promising to be lamb, green beans and sour plum. It turned out to be, in effect, another soup in a slightly larger bowl - hungarian ghoulash style, the dominant paprika at least gave it save flavour. The dish contained three cubes of lamb which one could if pushed have cut in half (although the cutlery didn't include a knife), a handful of green beans and traces of sliced plum.

The local beer cost slightly more for 0.33 litres than a 0.5 litre of the same product costs in most Armenian restaurants.

One or two service staff speak some English, though you'll be ignored by others. Service was brusque, Soviet-era.

Despite only ordering two dishes and a beer, this was one of the most expensive meals I've had in a few months travel in Turkey, Georgia and Armenia. It was very disappointing and poor value for money.

“I was honestly disappointed”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

After reading so much great reviews of this restaurant, my family and I were very surprised at the quality of the food. The atmosphere was lovely but the food was substandard. My father ordered veal and it was very dark in color and hard - totally unedible. My mother and I ordered stew, it was alright but the lamb seemed to be old.
The only good dish was the appetizer of mutabal.

“Really tasty Armenian cuisine.”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

Good choice of local food made from local ingredients. We loved Armenian food in general and this is a good one. It is a bit pricey (especially the drinks are overpriced), but the quality is there. Good service and the waiters speak English (which is often not the case in Armenia)

“Ottolenghi eat your heart out!”
Reviewed July 24, 2013 via mobile

Golly. Occasionally one stumbles across an unexpected gem in the middle of nowhere- this was one of those. Dilijan is a small town in a small (but lovely) country in the Caucasus, yet I would say this restaurant was worthy of a central London or New York location. The dishes were armenian/middle eastern but with innovative twists, eg the aubergine dip starter was not just your regular baba ghanoush, but also had almonds and fresh herbs in it. The lahmacun had the freshest flavours with fresh tomato in it, and was baked to crisp perfection. Mains included raspberry leaf dolma, lamb with green beans and plums, and beef cooked in pomegranate sauce. We treated ourselves to a sort of tasting menu- by ordering just about everything from the menu and eating ourselves silly! The decor and ambience was also lovely.
I'm already planning a trip back to Armenia just to come back to this place. Yum!
