Another wonderful couple of weeks in August at the Cranford – the cottages, always lovely, have had a makeover and are now better than ever and the work that has been put into improving the grounds, lakes and swims has made the whole place look absolutely amazing.

Fishing must have been good as barely saw Leafy Dulwich Bill for the whole fortnight (or was that because of the 3 ½ year old nephew?.....jury’s out on that one!….)

And so much more to hols at the Cranford than the fishing and the relaxing, beautiful setting – it’s so central. Having the nevvy with us meant trips out to beach, Big Sheep, steam trains, Watermouth Castle and on and on and we ran out of time to do half of what we would have liked to do.

Never been sorrier to leave – so much so that myself and LD Bill aren’t prepared to wait until next Summer and are going to have a cheeky weekend at Easter with the dawg. And last but by absolutely no means least, Paul,Nikki and Archie - the hosts with the absolute mosts. It’s a second home down there and that’s totally down to them! (Any jobs going??.....)

If you want to take a trip to the real England, then this is the place to go. The hosts Paul and Nikki are warm, caring, genuine people who greet you with a smile and the friendliness doesn't leave for the whole time of your visit. The accommodation is first rate, immaculately clean and very comfortable. The weather unfortunately was very English as well, but it did'nt detract from our stay. The lakes and grounds are picturesque and marvellously maintained and the fish themselves are in first rate condition, even though the fishing was 'slower' than normal, I still managed to catch plenty and the fight of most of them will stay with me for a long time. There is plenty to do for the non angler, with Bideford and Barnstable just a short drive away.If I was pressed to visit only one place in England for a holiday, Cranford would be it.

Best wishes till the next time

Allan

On arrival we received a very warm & genuine caring welcome by all the family. Their passion for what they do is obvious & infectious. Our accommodation was spotlessly clean, comfortable & had everything we needed. The grounds & lakes are beautiful & very well maintained. We caught an abundance of top quality fish several in to double figures & on our last day Pete caught a 16lb 12 ounce Mirror Carp. We had a few meals in the pub & found the food very good. Thank you Paul & Nikki for a wonderful 2 week stay with you, it was absolutely brilliant we will definitely return next year.... if not before.
Tight lines, all the very best from Pete & Jill xx

Hello Paul & family,
this is a belated massive thankyou
for the warmest welcome to your beautiful office.
the thousand mile round trip was more than worth
the effort, and considering the freezing weather the
fishing was excellent. Tench to five pounds, carp to
twelve pounds, numerous bream to five pounds, mostly
due to your obvious local knowledge,( and of course my
own angling skill ???) Please pass on my best wishes
to the lads at the pub (great nosh) Might manage to get
that sea bream I was promised.
Wishing you all the very best,
Jim.

We have just returned from spending a wonderful week at the Cranford cottages. This was our first visit here. The accommodation is clean, very well equipped and very comfortable, you really couldn't wish for more, set in beautiful Devon countryside and of course 3 well kept fishing lakes on your doorstep. Lovely pub right next to cottages. My husband and son really enjoyed the fishing. Paul and Nikki are great. Paul was really friendly, welcoming, helpful and relaxed and did everything to make our stay enjoyable. We had decided on the first day that we would be returning. Ideally situated for visiting all Devon has to offer. If you like fishing and beautiful countryside you've found the ideal place. Thank you Paul, Nikki and Archie.........

A brilliant 5 days at the Cranford, weather was kind and this part of Devon looks so lovely when the sun co-operates. This was our first visit. Lovely cottage, very comfortable and all facilities that you could ask for. Beds very comfy. A very big thanks to Paul who made us feel at home straight away. We could not have asked for much more. Fishing was a bit slow to begin with but picked up as the week went on. That was partly me and partly the heat I think. Once I got into the swing of it, I was bagging up on Tench, Bream and Rudd. The carp eluded me this week but as Tench are one of my favorite species, no worries, we will be back next year. A big thanks to all. Rick
