“Outstanding service and value!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2013

This must be Devon's number one hidden gem!
Not only are the staff freindly, the food great, the ambience like something from a bygone age, but at prices that are difficult to believe (and that's in a nice way!).
Forget Bettys (in Yorkshire), or Annie's (in Manchester), no it's got to be The Green Lantern in Torrington everytime.
Really worth a visit, and don't forget to ask about their lovely freshly made fruit cake. Just under 1kg for just £1.85 - amazing!
The sad news is that the Green Lantern is currently up for sale, so take a visit today, as tomorrow might be too late. You won't be dissapointed!

“Nice old - fashioned cafe and bakery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2013

We'd been to the RHS garden nearby and decided to drop into Torrington for a look - round. We were attracted to the cafe by the display of cakes in the adjoinng bakery window and were not disappointed when we tried some!

The cafe is very old - fashioned and somewhat worn, but this gives it a charm of its own. The food on offer is very good and I do not know how they can make a profit at the price.

Well worth a visit if you are in the area

“Another world”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012

You step back in time, when the owner knew what you wanted, charges you very little and delivers it hot to your table quickly without any useless chatter. Forget power ordering, sit back and feel your arteries harden at a price not seen since the early 80s.

I've ticked the brunch box, it is all brunch.

“Wonderful wonderful place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2012

Informal, clean but worn, fantastic mug of tea and efficient & friendly staff. The cakes looked very special, but i was tempted toward the chips, egg and beans. It was like going back in time, very special British cafe and as long as you are not looking for asparagus quiche or fajitas i would not expect that you will be dissapointed. Oh yes, and it is very green indeed inside and i would go out of my way to visit the place again.

“Good Old fashioned courtesy and quality”

A family run businees which welcomes everyone with a smile, even when they've been closed an hour! Love the bakery products..a tasty traditional oasis, far from the madding supermarkets.
