“klášterní kostel Sv. Antonína Paduánského”

Church of St. Anthony of Padua (Kostel Sv. Antonina Paduanskeho)
Reviewed October 3, 2010

klášterní kostel Sv. Antonína Paduánského, the curch of Carmelite monastery Klášter bosých Karmelitánek. The early Baroque church is decorated with the main altar from 1681 with a painting, which describes a miracle - St. Anthony of Padua curing a young man. The painting is an excellent work by František Michael Rottmayer who was a court painter of Emperor Joseph I. The church is richly decorated with works by local sculptors and carvers, from whom the most important are Matouš Strachovský and Matouš Kölbl who constructed the pulpit in 1720 and decorated the unique organ from the same year, made by the famous Václav Pantoček from Dačice, with carvings. The painter Josef Altmann from the prominent Altmann family of painters from Dačice participated in the decoration of the monastery church. The monastery is private and the church is openend during mass. There is an opening next to the glass, so one can take some pix.
