“Stunning boutique hotel”

Friendly owners, great views and food. The garden and pool area is stunning so it's easy to spend lazy days by the pool reading a book or listening to music. A great place to unwind for a few days and get some sunshine.

No Jet Lag, 6 Hour flight, 10 hours of sunshine, no rain, no mosquito's (March & April) almost deserted beaches ;) Friendly people always smiling, great restaurants, and not too expensive... Go there and Enjoy....

Room Tip: There are only 5 rooms all on the first floor with views over the gardens, pool and ocean...

We have been home just over a week now. From the moment we arrived at the airport and were met by Luis our holiday was first class. The hotel and rooms were well designed, spotlessly clean and with quailty fittings. Food and drinks were fresh, and often fruit and vegetables were from the hotels vegetable garden which were loving tended by Lamin, who went above and beyond the call of duty by getting up during the night to water his precious plants. The gardens are beautiful, so relaxing, and really are a credit to him. Nina and Luis are the perfect hosts, always on hand should you have any queries, and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Yes, I would have no hesitation in recommending Leo 's for a wonderful quiet and relaxing break. We don't usually return twice to a hotel but are seriously considering next March.

We spent 10 days at Leo's, which we selected based on other Trip Advisor reviews. We can confirm all the good reviews. The hotel is away from all the hustle and bustle of the Senegambia strip, located on the heights above Brufut beach in an area that is at the southern end of the beachfront developments. It has direct access to the beach. While Koto and Kololi beach tend to get hyped, Brufut beach is actually much nicer and wider - much of Kololi has actually been washed away by the sea.

Leo's is a boutique hotel with 6 rooms and one ground floor suite. All except room no. 6 have a sea view. The hotel, although in the price range of the larger internationally managed hotels, does not aspire to compete with them. It is a very private retreat and the owners cater to your wishes if you voice them. This includes having local African dishes prepared for you and taking you along to Tanji to select your own fish for dinner. We could not share the criticism levelled at the restaurant by some reviewers. Yes, the menu is very limited and uses local ingredients (mostly) rather than foodstuffs imported through a hotel supply chain. However, there are dishes of the day and requests for variations from the menu (within reason) are successfully met by the chef - be it pancakes for breakfast or local dishes such as Domoda, Cassava and beans or Yassa. You do need to give the staff a heads-up though in the morning, so they can make sure to have the ingredients there for dinner.

The rooms are large well-appointed and easily meet or exceed the quality of rooms in similar hotels in Europe. The only drawback is that they are located above the bar and restaurant area, hence they are exposed to the noise from below (if you leave your sliding glass door open) in the evenings as well as in the early morning, when the kitchen awakens to life. The noise level is not dramatic in any way, but may affect light sleepers. However, you can compensate by dozing on the sun beds in the large and beautiful garden. The widely spaced pairs of sun beds will give you privacy and peace (and some even a sea view) that you will not find in bigger hotels or resorts.

All in all this was a great hotel experience. Although modern and sophisticated Leo’s Beach Hotel is not out of place in Gambia, but rather an example of how things could be when one tries to avoid repeating the mistakes of touristic developments that have destroyed so many holiday destinations. Our special thanks go to the owners of Leo’s – Nina and Luis – for their dedication, to the great kitchen staff and to the bar/restaurant staff including Suleiman, Osman, Kanny and many others who helped in the background to make our stay as enjoyable as it was.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 2 get less noise from the restaurant. Room 6 has no sea view.

We arrived at Leo's with a warming welcome by all and had the most lovely relaxing week in the sun. We choose this hotel because it is quiet as only has 6 rooms, 1 being a suite which is where we stayed and the fact that it's only 6 hours from Birmingham airport! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay as the garden food and everything was splendid. Well done Leo's! Have only been back a week and want to return!

We had a wonderfully relaxing break at Leo's last week and could not be happier with the way we were looked after. It is THE place for a completely quiet, chilled out holiday for a week or so in The Gambia.
The accommodation is spotlessly clean, the food well-cooked and the rooms (with sea view) are spacious and quiet. With lovely gardens overlooking the ocean, it is a great place to bird watch or just read a good book.
Do understand that it is a very quiet hotel and that people looking for any sort of party atmosphere need to think again - but if good weather, food and each other is all you need, then come here! A great place for couples to re-charge their batteries.

Room Tip: All are good!

Small is beautiful! Wanting comfort for our first few nights but disliking large standardised hotels, we chose Leo's and didn't regret it! The staff and owners are very welcoming and the rooms are generous in size and well equiped for our digital age. Everywhere was perfectly clean.
The view from the room over the pool, across the gardens and down to the sea was beautiful. The gardens would be a lovely place to sit, but we preferred the beach. The beach is down a flight of steps and there are very few people there. We were not troubled by bumsters.
There is an independent café/bar on the beach about 50 meters south of Leo's called Twins Bar. The owner informed us of his bar and then left us in peace, which is why we decided to have lunch there. The lunch was really excellent and cheap. We ate there every lunchtime from then on. A word of warning: you have to order the previous day. The owner then goes the following morning to buy the fish at Tanji, so freshness is guaranteed!
We went for long tranquil walks on the beach, swam and even slept on the shady sunbeds. Bliss!
Rooms are numbered 1 to 5. We had the 5, which is unfortunately just above the bar, so some music would seep through from the bar to our room. However, at 11pm everything was quiet and during the day we were on the beach anyway!
Many thanks to the Austrian owners for creating this little corner of heaven.
