What can I say.......spent five days over new years at this chic slick hotel! We stayed in a beautiful suite overlooking the breathtaking garden/pool and the atlantic ocean just a stones throw away! As you sit on your balcony watching the sun going down, then you know your hotel has the X factor! This boutique hotel is the Riad of the Gambia, you feel like you are in a family home surrounded by beauty, tranquill, friendleness, humour and laughter.
The owners Nina & Alois have thought of everything, nothing is missing, I am not going to repeat other guest's comments, but if you are going to give up everything in your motherland and hope to build a life in the gambia with their wonderful people, Then this lovely Austrian couple have cracked it, what impressed me the most was their kindness, humbleness, respect and courtsey which just comes so naturally to them.
Our new years eve menu was.......amazing! 4/5 courses, which was truely divine, upon speaking with the owner Alois, he said his cooking was just a hobby and he normally lets his wonderful staff get on with it, well if this is a hobby?..He would certainly give some of the top UK chef's a run for their professional money! :) Nina, Alois, Fatou 1 & 2 Kani, Sauliman, and all of the other wonderful staff, a big big thank you for the best New Years break ever! promise next time, will try and keep up with the beat of the drums!! :)

Room Tip: This is a small boutique hotel, where all rooms look out onto the atlantic ocean, and if you want to see heaven on hearth, then just book a room

The owners of the hotel have absolutely thought of everything to make our stay comfortable. Besides exceeding our expectations about the standard features of a good hotel (such as cleanliness, service, food etc... ) we had been pleasantly surprised so many times about the attention to detail at every corner of our experience at Leo´s. Everything works, nothing is ever a problem for the staff (plus a smile :)). You want to have your breakfast at noon time? on your balcony? at the pool side? no problem... you want to take some shrimp to the beach for fishing? no problem... drivers organized (prices pre-set). We received a welcome omlette at midnight as we arrived from the airport. Add to that super comfortable beds, roomy bedrooms (all with a view). We also really enjoyed our time on the beach at Senay¨s Twins Bar (not sure about the spelling of his name, but he works just on the beach side of Leo´s). He was great and I encourage everyone to support him and buy your JulBrew´s from him if you fancy a day on the beach. He will chat with you, but also give you your space to have a ¨nice relax¨as he calls it :) We can´t stop recommending it to all of our friends! A big thank you to Luis, Nina and the entire staff! Jake & Justy.

I have never bothered to review a hotel before but felt compelled to review Leo's Beach Hotel as it is the most amazing and wonderful experience EVER!!!!!

My husband and I have just spent the most wonderful, relaxing, tranquil, peaceful, satisfying, amazing, happy, fulfilled week at Leo's and we were so sad to leave. From the moment we arrived at the airport where owner Alois was there to pick us up, to the moment we set foot in the stunning hotel and surrounding gardens overlooking the beautiful beach, we felt overawed and completely at home. Staying at Leo's is like staying in your own home if it was the most luxurious and beautiful home in the most beautiful setting with a host of wonderful people looking after you.

Nina and Alois are the lovely and friendly owners of this spectacular hotel and their attention to detail in all things with running the hotel are second to none! Every whim is thought of and taken care of and every time you think, I wish they had this or that you find out that they have already thought of it! Little touches like the light in the ensuite which comes on automatically when entering the room (perfect when you are half asleep), the power socket in the fabulous covered seating area overlooking the ocean, wifi (if you wanted it) with signal even at the end of the garden, music facilities in the room, the mobile phone for each room so that you could contact the staff for anything you might need at any time and so many more little things which make the stay so pleasant.
All the staff are very friendly and helpful and we would like to say a special thanks to Suleiman, Fatu 1 & 2, Kanee, Lamin and Augustus. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to the 2 bedroom suite and I have to say it was fantastic, the views overlooking the garden and ocean, took your breath away! The hotel is immaculately clean and the fixtures and fittings are to the highest standards.

The garden of Leo's is stunning, it is the perfect place to unwind and the sound of the ocean was so relaxing that all our troubles just melted away. We liked to sit in the covered seating area overlooking the ocean and also on the lovely sunbeds looking out to sea. The garden is beautifully kept and well designed so that you can find a tranquil spot to relax or you can sit by the pool. The beach is really close, only a few steps down from the garden and then onto the lovely quiet beach. I have mobility issues and use a walking stick but I found Leo's perfect. The walk down to the beach is fine, however I couldn't do it too many times, but to be honest we spent most of our time relaxing in the garden.
Nina and Alois are very knowledgeable and always happy to help, advise on trips and Gambia information and made us feel very welcome and at home

Now to the other part of the review, the food. Having been to The Gambia before we liked the food and didn't intend to eat in the hotel much, however on the first night, as we were tired, we ate in the restaurant and then never left as the food is out of this world!
Alois is an amazing chef and has trained all of his restaurant staff to make the food really perfect. The menu has a Mediterranean feel and we tried most of the menu and liked ALL of it. I particularly recommend the fish soup and the Spanish ham starter and also any of the grilled fish dishes, although all the mains were brilliant. I have never tasted food with such flavour where all the subtle tastes came through without being overwhelmed. We were also lucky enough to have the Christmas Eve 8 course meal and I have to say we were blown away with the quality of the food and the presentation, each course was a delight and I think it was the best christmas meal we have ever eaten. I also recommend for breakfast, Leo's favourite, which is scrambled eggs with potato espuma (potato foam) and Spanish ham it's was a great way to start the day. The restaurant is located by the pool and you can see the garden and the ocean which is lovely. You can also eat in your room if you wish.

There was a good choice of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and I recommend the piña colada and the non alcoholic Alice fruit cocktail! The prices at Leo's were very good and we really liked that the mini bar in the room was the same price as the main bar so you didn't get charged a premium.

We have been to some wonderful hotels in the past, however I think Leo's Beach Hotel is the best one and our favourite and we will definitely be coming back, but this time for longer!!!

Thank you Nina and Alois for making our trip so wonderful and we look forward to seeing you next year!!!!

Room Tip: All the rooms look amazing but the 2 bed suite really has the wow factor.

Tranquillity, high standard of hygiene, very good food. Of course we can think of many more, so we really liked the good bed, the big room with sea view, the stunning vegetable garden, the unforgettable Crème brullée, the friendly security guys that watch the compound around the clock, the owner´s car ( „Defender“) , the direct access to the beach over a little path down the cliff, the pool (with a button for calling the service), the restaurant that is always open, the very friendly stuff and the international clientele and … that the owners help to plan your tours.
As I am not a cat lover, I cannot say that I loved the one und only very clean cat, but I´m sure many people do.

If you are looking for a great Food experience Leos is the place. The freshest fish, the pasta is al dente and a great menu with specials. The hotel itself is stylish and modern designed, with comfortable bis rooms and balconies facing the pool, garden and sea. The small boutique hotel with just 5 rooms just opend a in beginning of 2013 and is located right next to the beach and great for relaxing, exploring the neighbouring Banjul, Tange or Gambia river. The Austrian owners Luis and Nina Vice serve a true Gambian experience with Tirolean hospitality. Thumbs up!
