What a magnificent place. My friend and I stayed at this beautiful resort for 3 nights and were truly sorry when it came time to leave. The staff were all just outstanding, every single one of them. Nothing was too much bother. As a team they are one of the best that I have ever come across.
Thank you Kewarra Beach Resort for a most memorable and enjoyable stay.

My husband and I spent 5 nights at Kewarra resort as part of a 3 week trip around Australia for our 5th anniversary. I came across the resort online, ordered a free brochure and fell in love with the photos so decided stay there. It is located in Cairns, about 15 minutes from the city centre. A car is definitely recommended for getting about town easily.

The setting is ideal. We stayed in one of their "Pipi Mouds" which is an individual hut that directly faces the beach and is within steps of the sand. If you are going on a romantic holiday I would definitely recommending spending the extra money for this beautiful view. The hut itself is well equipped with a large room and mini fridge, dressing area and washroom. We made large use of the mini fridge by putting some of our own bits in it such as orange juice, beer and wine which we purchased at the local grocery store at a much lower cost than buying it from the "mini bar" per se.

The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. It also had a small porch on the front where you can enjoy a drink and the sunset. We did not eat at the hotel as we found it to be very pricey compared to restaurants in the city. The staff though were extremely friendly and we did order drinks a few times by the pool. You can also order room service out on their private beach!
We mainly ate in town though found a local takeaway with Chinese about 5 minutes away which we enjoyed on the porch.
The pools were beautiful, I've never seen anything like them. The water was warm enough to swim in and although there was a safe place in the Ocean (it was jellyfish season) we mainly stuck to the pool.

The grounds were excellent for walking around with an abundance of wildlife as the resort is built within a rainforest. The flowers and plants were gorgeous and there is a large pond where you can feed some fish. Make sure you put on mosquito protection if you are outside in the rainforest!
One thing I made excellent use of were the laundry facilities. Since were on holidays for 3 weeks, we were about half way through when we stayed at Kewarra, it was nice to be able to get everything cleaned. There are 2 sets of washers and dryers so you can have laundry going while you are relaxing by the pool.

The only complaint I would have is in regards to the internet access. They claimed to have free access in the lounge and when we first arrived we were able to connect from our room since it was close by. However, after the first day we found we were not able to connect even when we had our laptop in the lounge. We were not the only guests that ran into this issue while we stayed there and ended up using their computer for internet acess which they charge about a dollar for 15 minutes.

If we were going back to Australia we would definitely go to Cairns to stay at Kewarra. It is like nothing I have experienced before. It was so peaceful, beautiful and romantic. It is highly recommended.

My wife and I were staying on the Gold Coast however wanted to see the rainforests and Cairns to go to the Barrier Reef. After initially booking for the two of us, our daughter also came so we had to upgrade to a two bedroom moud. The extra cost was $AUS316 per day (£140) just for another bedroom and bathroom that I considered expensive. Cairns is built on a Mangrove swamp which results in the beach being of dark brown sand and the sea muddy for about a mile out - confirmed by a local taxi driver; not the golden sands and prisitine blue sea on the brochure.
The staff are all very friendly however the meals are expensive.
The resort does lay on a minibus to Cairns and Palm Cove, however at very inconvenient times and always to coincide with mealbreaks at the resort. Bearing in mind Cairns is a $AUS50 taxi ride away, I think this is clever organisation by the resort management. During a period of rain, my daughters skydive was cancelled, not the resorts fault, but they did have a problem suggesting other things for us to do as the skytrain to Kanunda was having a two week overhaul and the land train only goes daily at 0830hrs. They however suggested a guided walk in the resort gardens, this even came at a cost of $AUS12 pp, so was declined and we took ouselves. The gardens are lush, however we heard, not saw the various birds in the brochure as they are in the tops of the trees. The TV reception in the rooms is poor considering the overall cost.
I would not recommend this resort to anyone and would suggest a better alternative, less rainforest, would be Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays.

This review was posted before new owners and management took over Kewarra Beach Resort in 2008 after which we carried out a major $2½ million refurbishment and renovation project.
We are delighted to advise that this work was completed in 2009 and all accommodation has refreshing new soft furnishings, enhanced fixtures and in room amenities including new flat screen televisions, quiet energy efficient air conditioning, complimentary in room high speed internet access, along with environmentally sensitive lighting.
Our public areas received a beautiful makeover with a new forest restaurant situated overlooking the beach, a stunning new reception, bar and lounge area with vertical gardens and new soft furnishings. We have also opened a fabulous new Day Spa and beachside café.
Following a successful recruitment drive and thorough in-house training programs our service standards are second to none and we pride ourselves now on having the very best hospitality staff in Australia.

Our choice of Kewarra was based upon two criteria; we wanted somewhere where we could get married on the beach and spend a few days recovering from the long trip across from the UK before we went exploring Far North Queensland. Looking at all the alternatives Kewarra stood out for us as the best option.
Our stay confirmed that we made the right choice and the resort deserves all the accolades it gets. From the first email enquiry I sent I received quick responses which put me at ease that organising a wedding from thousands of miles away would work.

When we arrived we were not disappointed with the location with miles of deserted beach and the wonderful rainforest grounds. We had chosen a Pipi Moud and got No 1 which was secluded and well away from any paths.

The wedding day went like clock work and even through there were only the two of us the whole staff made a fuss, they even took photo's and a video. One small critisism is that even though there were hardly any people staying at the resort we did manage to get a number of sunbathers on our official wedding photo's. I think they should have been asked if they wouldn't mind moving a bit further down the beach.

In summary - if you want to get married thousands of miles away from home, want an exotic location and someone you can trust to organise it all for you then Kewarra is the perfect choice.

We booked our first two nights at the Kewarra beach resort based on the reviews and the resorts web site. We paid the web prices which were about 35% greater than any other we encountered booking location to location,( end of April lots of accomodation throughout north Queensland).

The location and grounds are excellent.
The pool is picturesque but small.
The decor and facilities are at least 20 years dated.

The food ( we tried lunch on our first day and dinner on our first evening ) was pretentious and the large menu was achieved by the use of frozen produce and more than a modicum of microwave. For a resort purporting to be 4 or five star (and charging accordingly) it was a disgrace.

The staff were friendly, well trained and helpful.
The ancient Air Conditioning units in the tired but scenic beach rooms have the charm and audio appeal of a Boeing 737 on take off.
The tranquility and peace on which this break was planned was not only marred by the above but magnificiently maimed by the wedding party ( never mentioned on booking or on arrival) on the second night. This nuptial (surely wonderful for the participants and guests) continued throughout the day, flute and cd music on the beach till c 6.00 pm followed by Live ( and loud) Band till 11.00pm and chat and dispersal until 1.00am.

All of the above issues were mentioned on checking out and a week later there has been no response.

Hence the review...

Mark

We recently stayed here for our honeymoon, and it was absolutely perfect. When we arrived we were greeted with a tropical drink and upon hearing we were honeymooners they gave us a free room upgrade and bottle of sparkling wine! The staff was so friendly and accomodating. We had a minor medical emergency the first day we were there and they went out of their way to make sure we got to a doctor. One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at!
