This is a lodge in the traditional local mountain style. Our room was extremely spacious with a huge comfortable bed to match. It even had a couple of shelves so we could unpack – unusual for China. The staff were helpful. For instance, when I indicated that I couldn’t see to read in the bedroom (lighting in Southern Chinese hotel bedrooms can be extremely dim), the receptionist offered a reading light from her own room and took it straight up.
The hotel has free Wi-Fi in the bedrooms as well as downstairs although it was a little slow on my ancient laptop.
Be warned that supper is very early for European tastes, 5.30 to 7.30 pm and the upper limit may represent meal finishing time rather than starting time. Certainly the impression was given that diners would be encouraged to start their meals at 5.30 or 6 no later. One wonders what the reaction would be to anyone arriving at 7.00pm. Yet many travelers will have made the difficult trip by road from Guilin or Yangshuo (factor in the possibility of some major traffic hold-ups) arriving at 2pm or later and will then head off for a late lunch. Who then wants to eat supper at 5.30? Only Americans I suspect and this may be the explanation – the lodge has a Chinese owner who is based in the USA so he may be imposing American expectations, and maybe Chinese.
Breakfast follows a fixed menu, a little different from the huge buffets that are the norm in top hotels in China. One has to make some adjustments to the mountain way of life I guess but a little wider choice would be nice.
So my recommendation to the hotel would be to extend the times for dinner, starting a little later, finishing a little later and I would also suggest that there should be a little more choice at breakfast.
Even so we liked the hotel, enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others.
