The Baike is really the place to choose when visiting the Longji Rice Terraces. The location is great, with nice views.
The hotel is very cozy and the rooms are far above expectation! They are larger than most 5 star hotels! The hotel and the rooms are very clean.
The food was excellent as well and the lobby/seating area is very relaxing.
Most importantly, Jason, the owner, and all the other employees, including his wife, mother, mother in law etc, were all very very nice, very friendly and attentive.
I would go back without any hesitation and I highly recommend it to couples or families? My children loved the hotel as well!

My wife and I stayed in Baike Hotel during our visit to Longji Rice Terrace. Excellent location. Charming boutique hotel. We had a wonderful stay with a panoramic view. Host Jason and his wife took excellent care of us. Definitely a place to stay in if you do visit the Longji Rice Terraces. The 18 Km trek from PingAn to DaZai is highly recommended to view the different amazing Rice Terraces. A guide to lead the way is highly recommended. Food is good and not a problem. The hotel has good and clean amenities. We enjoyed our stay immensely and will not hesitate to recommend the place to anyone.

During our week in Yangshuo/Guilin my partner and I wanted to visit the Longji Rice Terraces, so based on other Tripadvisor reviews we booked two nights at Baike Hotel in Ping’an. If I could, I would kiss ev. Tripadvisor reviewer in gratitude for leading us to this charming, relaxed, rustic but well-equipped boutique hotel, which was somehow magically situated on a mountaintop with a fairy-tale vista, but also convenient to reach as it is quite close to the Ping’an gate/car/bus dropoff parking lot. (For other hotels you would have to hike up quite a ways with your bags.)

Jason Gu, the owner (along w/ his family), has the perfect blend of conscientiousness with a chill vibe. He takes care of your ev. need but without crowding you (also, he speaks perfect English). On the second day, my back was bothering me and I was afraid to commit to the 4-5 hour hike from Ping’an to Dazhai, but we still wanted to see the views from Dazhai. No problem — Jason arranged a van to take us up the mountain to Dazhai, where we hiked up to the Tiantou viewing spot and back (2 hours), had a snack, and then a return ride back to Ping’an. Perfect.

Ev. meal at Baike (cooked by Jason’s adorable wife) was somehow both simple and incredibly delicious. Coffee and banana pancakes while sitting on the balcony overlooking the mist-covered rice terraces. Brilliant. Dinner of ginger chicken cooked in a bamboo stalk over a fire was arguably my favorite meal I’ve eaten thus far in China. (Indeed we ate this both nights we stayed at Baike.) The fresh wild greens and pumpkin also delicious.

My husband enjoyed some of Jason’s homemade passionberry wine one evening while sitting out front watching people amble by on the picturesque winding village road.

The panoramic-view room on the 3rd floor was NUTS. Honestly my husband and I spent 45 minutes freaking out at the view when we first entered, taking pictures out the front and side windows. You feel like you’re sleeping in a comfy magical treehouse.

Note that you don’t have to be a serious backpacker/hiker to enjoy Ping’an and the rice terraces— you can hike at a leisurely pace, stopping to take pictures of the stunning landscapes, farmers tending to their rice paddies, villagers going about their daily life, etc. There seem to be a number of cafes and restaurants in Ping’an, although we only ate at Baike b/c we loved it there. :)

All the supplies for these mountain villages are brought up by horseback or person, so it’s also interesting just to walk along the winding alleys of the town, passing horses carrying all sorts of things up and down the path. It’s just a fantastic place for a photographer.

As a foreigner who has lived in China for a few years, I also particularly enjoyed seeing the culture/style of the Zhuang and Yao minorities here. It’s a refreshing change from the Han culture and usual imperial architecture etc. It’s a more vibrant and colorful culture, leaning more toward Tibetan than Han, if you know what I mean.

What else to say — the room was v. clean and comfortable, with ev. modern convenience, but still w/ a rustic charm such as stools made out of tree stumps.

Thank you, Jason Gu and family, for such a memorable, easy, and enjoyable visit to one of China’s most beautiful places.

My friend and I traveled to Longsheng in March and was able to stay at the Baike hotel for a night. The location is excellent and is only 5 minutes walk from the parking lot and entrance to the village (no need to hire anyone to carry luggage up the hill). The owner called us that night to make sure we didn't get lost; and met us at the parking lot. The hosts are friendly, spoke great English, and we had dinner at the hotel which was reasonably priced and very good food. The room was cozy and warm (it had a well working heater in the room as well as WiFi), the bed was actually soft (rare in China), the bathroom was actually quite modern and nicely renovated. The view was incredible. We had breakfast there as well which was good as well (I suggest trying their home-made soymilk or tea). Then we had a guided tour of the Longii Rice Terraces (the guide was actually the owner's mother-in-law). Firstly, she's really cute, and in amazing health for her age! Secondly, the hike was about 10 miles with a lot of stairs and hills and she climbed them faster than we did. Thirdly, it was very helpful to have her with us leading us through unmarked paths and showing us vista points, we would've never found any of these locations without her. She also took us to a restaurant for lunch which also served good food and was reasonably priced. She was VERY patient with us as we were slow climbers, my friend needed some help with the slippery, wet, and narrow roads, and we took a lot of pictures. She was also very kind to take many pictures for us. It was well worth the cost of getting a guide. All in all, had a great time and would highly suggest this hotel (and especially the guide!)

We had a wonderful stay, mainly due to the host Jason and his family. This place had the best customer service we've experienced at a hotel in China by a long way. A "must stay" place if you are visiting Longji.
Room: we had the panoramic room on 3rd floor and the view was fantastic, the room matches the pictures on the website (there's no airbrushing or "tricky" angles etc). The room was clean and did not have any "funny" smells. The bathroom is basic but clean and plenty of hot water, good water pressure. We did not use the air conditioner. There's a set top box similar to Apple TV in room and if you can read mandarin to operate it there's English TV shows and movies on demand for free, wifi was free in room and fast.
Restaurant: we had breakfast and 2 dinner, food was of good quality, quantity and flavoursome. The view from the restaurant balcony is the same as from our room.
Location: just before the steps leading up to Ping'An village so it's not very far from the car park, very quite. We walked to the viewing platform on the first day but gave up due to both the mist blooming the views and exhaustion. On the second day we walked to DazHai and the views were wonderful. Though sitting in the room looking out the windows is just as wonderful.
Services: Jason booked a shuttle bus for us from Guilin to the car park saving us hundreds of RMB in taxi fare, one family member came to pick us up from the bus and took us to the hotel ( no one else from our bus was meet by their hotel), Jason can also book taxi transfers. We've found that with Jason's help you can do this trip independently from Guilin without any Mandarin language skills.

Room Tip: Panorama room if it's available, you have to see the views for yourself.

After visiting the rice terraces early my husband, son (17), and I were ready for our next to the last lunch in China. As we walked down the steep hill back to the car park we glanced at many of the menus offered but didn't see quite what we wanted. When we stopped at the Baike Hotel we liked the menu displayed outside but it was Jason Gu's smile and grasp of english that made it an easy decision to eat here. Jason, it turns out, is the owner and a super friendly guy. Once inside he seated us on the back terrace overlooking the rice terraces. We would have been happy with a mediocre meal based on the view but....the food was excellent! Jason was happy to talk to us about China and America and especially the food. Definitely go here and ask to be seated on the balcony. Thanks Jason! I can only imagine how nice it would have been to stay at your hotel!

Room Tip: Only stopped here for lunch which was delicious. Ask to be seated on the back terrace for a great v...
