Dragons Den is a peaceful friendly hostel with great Chinese food available (much more flavoursome and cheaper than Wisdom Inn's restaurant is Daozai for example). All the rooms at the front of the building have the jaw-dropping view of the rice terraces you are probably imagining. The staff are helpful and hard-working, and the guest lounge is a cozy place to look out and contemplate the scenery. (Although to be fair, all the accommodation options in TianTou can likely offer you the view.)
The double rooms are average hostel accommodation - no soundproofing, shonky bathrooms (although perfect hot water) and no housekeeping. But the bed is comfy, and the room is clean and functional.
The paths to all scenic viewpoints and neighbouring villages are accessed straight out the front door. The hostel team can help with directions. I noticed most guests tended to stay only one night - if you have the time stay longer and enjoy the peaceful evenings and an early start wandering through the terraces. (Note - be prepared for some sloppy red clay and slippery stone paths. Overall very manageable terrain but you may need to move slowly and expect to finish the day a bit muddy!)

Checked out a couple of other places before this; this one had by far the comfiest beds (actually the comfiest we've had in China) and the rooms at the front have great views over the rice terraces. The rooms are small and basic but ours had a hot shower, Western toilet and AC. The walls are thin so it does get noisy but I assume that's the same at most of the places round here. Also has a nice restaurant/lounge area with decent Western and Chinese food. They have Beer Lao, for ¥15, which is a real treat amongst all the wishy-washy Asian lagers. Had planned to stay just one night but, after arriving, decided to relax - the area is worth at least two nights - before our trek back down to Ping'an.

The staff are a little dozy. Wanting to stay the extra night we were told that was fine only to be told the next morning, just as we were leaving to explore the area, that we had to move rooms if we wanted to stay.

Overall a great place and we wish we'd been able to stay longer.

It is a 50min relentlessly uphill walk to this hostel. You can't take a wheely suitcase unless you pay one of the local women to carry it for you. Worth the walk!
Amazing location right up the hill, fantastic views and wonderfully peaceful. Patchy Internet in the rooms but good in the lobby area.
Good basic food.
Many routes from the doorstep.

We stayed here because we wanted to walk from Dazai out to Ping'an the following day. It was a great base, nice rooms and a good outlook. Perfectly located for adventures who want to explore the terraces off the beaten track - but also reasonably accessible. Would recommend to anyone fit enough to climb the steps up the hill!
