LongJi Terraces Tian ranju Inn
Reviewed September 15, 2012 via mobile

The location of this hotel is absolutely fantastic. The views from the front are picture perfect, looking out onto the rice fields. We could have stayed here a lot longer!

Jimmy very helpful and makes you feel very welcome. He'll come and meet you from the bus down in Dazhai and walk up to the hotel with you.

The rooms are great, hot water showers and western toilets in the terrace facing rooms. It was absolutely freezing on our first night here - partly due to our lack of warm clothing, but the sun came out the next day and didn't go until we left.

Food is lovely and well priced especially as you are limited for choice!

I would recommend anyone to come and stay here!

We can't say enough good things about this place! The owners Hannah and Jimmy are extremely friendly and very hands on with the guests, ready to assist whenever needed. While the location may be a 40 min uphill hike it is definitely worth it! Not only are you more secluded from the Chinese daytrippers but, the views are breathtaking and you are already that much closer to viewpoints 1,2,3. Our one caveat was the noise you could hear from other guests. However, this isnt fault of the hotel but, merely how all the buildings are constructed in the building and its nothing earplugs cant fix. Thank you hannah & Jimmy for the warm stay :)

Room Tip: The third floor will have less noise due, to no one walking on top of you and ask for a front facing...

5 Stars not as in "5 star hotel", but as in perfectly appropriate for the location and the price. It is wooden, rustic and built like the other typical houses in that area. For German speakers familiar with the Alps, it is kind of like a nice "Huette" (that's what my kids compared it to). Most of what the other reviews say is true: Amazing views from the rooms and terrace; friendly, English speaking hosts (Hannah and Jimmy); thin wooden walls - yes, you will hear your neighbors snore or talk, but that comes with the construction and local style; simple, but functional and private bathrooms; hike-in required - again, that's part of the charm, but you have to be up for it; and working wifi. The rooms and views are just like in the official photos. We did like the food, especially the dishes made with fresh local vegetables like bamboo shoots. We loved the fried noodles with egg for breakfast - so yummy!

I loved the night - it cooled down a lot, and we slept with the window open - the screen kept out bugs (the gaps in the building probably didn't, though). The different kinds of frogs made for nice background noise?music?, which actually was welcome to camouflage your neighbors' noise, if there was any.

To clear up any confusion: This inn is now run by Hannah, who had previously managed the Jin Tian Inn and got rave reviews there (her lease there was up and they are constructing a new inn partially in front of it now).

We also found the local people very friendly and not pushy at all.

If you think about visiting the rice terraces, do it sooner rather than later. It is becoming more touristy and commercialized, but in the back part of the rice terraces (Dazhai, Tian Tou Village), it was still very enjoyable. You can tell it is changing, though, and they are putting in a Gondola to go up to one of the view points from Dazhai. That will likely bring a lot more people, though many might just stick to taking the Gondola and lots of pictures.

Room Tip: Any room with a view!

Pros: The view is SPECTACULAR. The location is close to Golden Budda Viewpoint (viewpoint #3), about an hour away. Jimmy, the guy who meets you at the bottom of the hill and hikes up with you, is awesome. He was really helpful in helping us organize our next leg of the trip. The room was good size. Wifi worked really well in the rooms. Price is good.

Cons: The bathroom is a little dark and the floor remains wet. The food in the restaurant was not very good and pricey. The walk up is tough if you got a big backpack (but old lady villagers/sherpas will carry it up for you if you can brave the humiliation). No AC which was ok when we went but I think it would be hot in other times of the year as there are no fans in the room either.

You gotta mentally prepare for the hike up when you get dropped off in the parking lot. But you see a lot of old people doing it and girls in heels doing it, so you can do it. Just eat something before you go. Jimmy is very encouraging through it all and you take breaks. I think it's worth it to stay higher up.

Once you get over the stiff walk uphill to the village you will receive a warm welcome from Jimmy, who was also very helpfull sorting transport from Guilin. Rooms are fine, a bit noisy until everyone goes to bed but them that will be true of every place around here as they are all wooden. Walk from the door to the viepoints if you can tear youself away from the windows. Food was fine, tasty and cooked to order with a western breakfast available.
