Description: Art Nouveau Restaurant is located in a wonderful villa of the late Eighteenth Century, a lovely art nouveau country house which represents the symbol of Santa Maria al Bagno, a small sea front town along the Salento West coast, one of the most charming locations in Puglia. An essential as well as priceless place, where the art of cooking merges with the beauty of nature, in a sort of appealing and surprising mixture.

“Hidden gem in Salento”
Reviewed May 21, 2012

Yesterday we had dinner in Art Nouveau. The owner was very hospitable. He spoke English which was very helpful. The food was really tasty. I enjoyed my antipasti and lobster which was cooked in Catalonian way. Antipasti was a selection of different starters from sea products. All dishes were well presented. My husband had meat. He also enjoyed starter from ham and cheese and well done steak for the main course. The service and atmosphere were nice. We spent a very pleasant evening there.

“wonderful muscles and tasty pasta by turquoise sea!”
Reviewed May 20, 2012

this place has a lovely setting (get a table on the terrace) and very good food. The service is also very good and their is a very kind English speaking man in charge. We had gorgeous muscles in parsley and white wine which tasted divine and yummy prawns cooked to perfection in a creamy truffle infused sauce. Pasta mains were also good, the basil gnoochi being nice and filling an another tomato based twisty past with fish chunks (i forget the fish!) which was perfectly al dente and in a nice sauce. No room for puddings as we were full. We saw plates of yummy looked sea-food all around us and nice puddings too. Would recommend. Not that expensive (pasts 8-13 euro) and was filled with locals. The setting is great as nice to people watch into santa maria al bagno while admiring the pretty blue sea or tree lined promenade. Offered limonchello on the house which is always a nice touch.

“Nice restaurant with fresh fish and terras overlooking the sea”
Reviewed May 20, 2012

We choose this restaurant based on the reviews here on trip and we were not dissapointed.
We sat outside overlooking the sea, and had a nice antipasto, carpaccio of swordfish, my pasta with sea urchin wasn't the best I had in italy, but my sisters fried frutti di mare, were excellent. If I had stayed longer in Santa Maria al Bagno I would definetly return to this restaurant.

“warm reception, chic surroundings and tasty food.”
Reviewed February 17, 2012

As frequent visitors to Santa Maria al Bagno in Puglia, this was, surprisingly our first visit to this restaurant on a cold and miserable February day. We had often passed the elegant beach front facade and assumed it would be too costly.
It turned out to be reassuringly expensive.

A family owned and run restaurant (they have another down the road and yet another on the way) we were greeted by the fluent English speaking son who was charming and helpful.

We were shown to a table by the window where we could enjoy the stunning sea views but the interior was beautiful enough to be enjoyed for itself - grand, high ceilings, interesting art and with tables well spaced without feeling empty.

The menu was fairly extensive and typically Puglian - plenty of interesting fish dishes including the local speciality of sea urchins which arrived at the next table on a huge, silver platter.

Home baked hot bread rolls and bread sticks were served immediately with a recommendation to dip them in the local olive oil - much more delicious than butter.
I enjoyed a beautiful dish of fresh tuna (cooked to your own specifications) and my husband could not resist his favourite frito misto (mixed fried seafood including prawns and squid) This was accompanied by a delicious plate of grilled mixed vegetables and glasses of excellent local red wine.

We didn't resist pudding and although they weren't on the menu that day the kitchen prepared the best panacotta I have tasted in Italy to date and a light and creamy tiramisu for my husband.

We will be returning to try a few of the more adventurous dishes.

“delicious food in elegant surroundings with fantastic view”
Reviewed January 23, 2012

A brisk Sunday morning walk along the Ionian coast was made perfect by an early lunch stop at this restaurant which friends had already mentioned to us as a place to go for special occasions. We were pleasantly surprised to be told that we could have lunch even though it was only 12.30 and were given a table looking over the sea. The palazzo has been charmingly restored and is elegant and relaxing. The service was excellent as was the food and we came away feeling that we would definitely be back again
