...and thought we'd go along for a meal as it was rated number 1 in the area. Tripadvisor reviewers were right it was a great restaurant with wonderful food. We were very well looked after and, considering our French is so poor they managed to understand what we wanted.

Definitely worth a visit, the steak in particular was superb and we will return if we visit the area again.

We first visited this restaurant a year or so ago, just after it reopened following a makeover. At the time we were pleasantly surprised, but we did just wonder if it would continue in the same vein. Having now been on four or five further occasions, I am pleased to say that standards do seem to have been maintained.

Decor is bright - with lots of red and white - admire the interesting wall lights which look like giant fried eggs! The overall effect is modern and table settings are nicely presented.

There are three or four set menus with choices as well as the a-la-carte option. Dishes are imaginative and served attractively. On weekdays there is a lunchtime menu which offers good value.

Each time we have been, we have been offered two or three amuses bouches; one on arrival and a couple of others between courses. On at least two occasions we have been offered a complimentary glass of 'fizz' at the end of the meal.

The wine list is not extensive but it is quite good and it's not hard to find something that will not break the bank.

Service has usually been reasonable, some of the waiting staff are probably from the town's catering college working to gain experience, so there are occasionally some rough edges.

This is not the cheapest restaurant in town, but it is one of the better ones and not exhorbitant. Friends we have taken have all been warm in their praise and we will certainly be returning.
