We booked this hotel as a stopover on the return leg of our recent French odyssey which took in Normandy, Loire and Les Gers. After 6 hours on the road we turned into the gates of the hotel to be presented with a vision which would grace a BBC period drama set in HD. The chateau style hotel sits in lush green grounds with substantial trees and on the front lawn a French wedding reception was taking place. Bride in full ivory gown with attendant bridesmaids and key men in wedding suits.
Check in was a pleasure with the very friendly and helpful receptionist who tolerated our primitive attempts at French with good humour.
The internal decor is classical but light and cheerful and the room on the first floor was a delight. Windows from ceiling to floor opening onto the scene on the lawn outside. Decor of a high standard and a large comfy 6 foot bed. Complimentary tea and coffee in the room and a separate bath/shower room with washbasin and w/c. There is an outside terrace where we had a couple of beers served by the receptionist, no waiting and good value.
We dined in the restaurant on the 29Euro menu. Service excellent and friendly in a conservatory looking out onto the lawn where the wedding had now moved onto the evening stage with self organised cabaret, very entertaining! The food was fantastic, especially the meat dishes. My wife had beef and I had lamb, very generous proportions and very well presented.
Breakfast was continental with plentiful variety well set out and again eaten in the conservatory overlooking the lawn. Checkout was smooth and friendly.
A true gem which we will certainly use again. Only a couple of minor niggles included for balance, there was no curtain for the shower so strategic placement of towels required to avoid flooding the floor and there is some road noise if you sleep with the window open. When closed, being double glazed there is no sound from outside. Neither of these points would be sufficient tom detract from what turned out to be the best 24 hours of a 15 day trip!!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 14 in the main building and it was delightful.

We have stayed in this hotel a number of times but over 20 years ago, then we thought it charming, peaceful and with an excellent restaurant and were delighted to find that over that period of time it had changed very little. Our room in the old building was comfortable, spacious and attractively furnished. Dinner in the restaurant was first-class with a good choice of menu at a reasonable price. Hotel Le Ferriere is a lovely place to stay if you are visiting the region at a good price.

We enjoyed our brief stay very much. We were welcomed by a charming lady, who was very kind and anxious to ensure that we were happy with our room, which we were. Our room in the old building was very spacious, nicely decoatrated, in excellent condition, with a comfortable bed and good bathroom. We had a drink in the bar before dinner and Madam quickly changed the television channel to the English news. Our meal in the restaurant was of really extremely good, with an interesting and extensive menu, and the service very attentive. We sought the waiter's assistance in selecting a wine and his choice was excellent. Breakfast was very adequate as well. An excellent hotel and very good value. Highly recommended.

A friend and I arrived on-spec having cycled c160km from St Malo and were well greeted and offered a twin room. The building is a large house converted in to a hotel. The room was comfortable, well appointed, had a good view of the grounds and was good value. The dinner was excellent and breakfast was up to the job of fuelling us for the next days ride of c150km. Secure parking for our bikes was made readily available by the delightfully helpful staff. Great place, decent value, we enjoyed our stay and would return.

The young couple who have taken over the Hotel and Restaurant La Ferriere outside Chateaubriant are doing a wonderful job. What a transformation! The rooms are large, airy, sunny, comfortable and well-appointed; the restaurant is excellent--and all at a real VALUE. The prices have come down from the more pretentious previous ownership. The fixed-price menus, starting at 17.90 Euros, include steak and escargots and delicious desserts. We will certainly return.

We arrived, having booked two double rooms for two nights in early Sept. for four of us only to be informed on arrival that the
two rooms were no longer available. We were offered instead a
large room on the top floor, three sets of stairs, with no lift.
As one member of the party was aged 83yrs. and another 77yrs.
we had no option but to refuse. We were however offered
accomadation in a sister hotel in the town, which we accepted.
This proved to be an excellent hotel.
However we stil felt badly let down. We were very much looking forward to our stay in the Chateaux. We feel that we were sacrificed to enable the management to accomodate a large party instead. So I would warn future visitors to check the
situation before you set off.

We just stayed the 1 night at this hotel at the beginning of October as on route to Rennes airport (30 miles approx). We had a 'chambre superieur' for 76 euros and it was a lovely room on the top floor, very large with a kingsize bed plus a single bed, and a huge bathroom (bath with shower). We had a meal in the restaurant which was excellent. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Our only slight criticism was that the restaurant and bar were a bit warm for us.
The town of Chateaubriant is well worth a visit.
