The Etap hotel Lille Englos is easy to find using the instructions on the Accor website. From here it is a 6.2 mile ride to the heart of historic Lille and being close to the Belgian border, it is also near to the Flanders WW1 battlefield sites. Unlike most of the Etap hotels I have stayed in, this clearly started out life as something else, (perhaps a different brand of hotel), so both the exterior and interior design are very different to what I have come to expect. The bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms tend to be a bit bigger than in other Etap hotels, although not as smart or well appointed as the most modern of them. Regardless of the proximity to main roads and a large busy retail park (which incidentally offers a choice of places to dine, a pub and even a nightclub), the hotel is tucked away in it's own tranquil grounds which escape all of the bustle. The car park gate is locked at night, but guests can exit and enter freely through this simply by using the same keycode as that for their rooms.
After a good nights sleep a standard Etap all you can eat and drink continental buffet breakfast sets you up nicely for a long days ride.
