Description: The Barley Mow is a lively and eccentric Free House located in the beautiful village of Bonsall. Famous for the 'World Championship Hen Races', and for being the most likely place to be abducted by aliens according to UFO magazine ! Fine food, great ale & one of the best live music venues in the area !

My wife and I are regular visitors, despite living in Northamptonshire, usually after caving expeditions nearby. The welcome is always exceptional, the beer is always marvellous, the atmosphere always warm and friendly, and the food is uniformly excellent, and top value. Their commitment to local musicians, and the activities they put on, makes it an even more special place. Can't wait for the hen racing championships!

Decided to go to this pub after reading the reviews in Trip Advisor. It's a great local pub, doesn't try to be anything that it's not, good pub food, plenty of it and the Bakewell tart with custard was delicious, we were very well fed when we left, food was very reasonably priced and there was plenty of it.

Colette and Dave were very welcoming hosts and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to friends visiting the area.

Will definitely go again and make it over a Friday night so we can catch some music.

We were staying at the excellent Pig of Lead and this pub was one of those recommended to us. On arrival we could instantly see why! We were greeted by Colette who recognised my wife from a chance meeting on a walk during the day and she immediately made us feel welcome. There is an excellent selection of real ales and food, catering for all palates and appetites. There is very much a 'local' feel to the pub, with villagers chatting over their pre-prandial drinks before heading home, but also mixing with the visitors, like us, in an easy - going manner. We were there on a Tuesday, which meant that there were two tables set out for the French Club; in essence, an opportunity to converse in French sipping British ale in the most English of pubs. Most surreal!.

We were staying for the weekend at Chestnut farm (which was also totally amazing) and I emailed the week before to book a table, Colette, Landlady Extraordinaire sounded lovely from her email but in person she is even better! Remembered exactly who we were when we arrived. What a pub, we havn't been to such a local country pub in years, the food was amazing, the onion rings (which I'm told are double dipped) are the best we had ever had. Puds fab too. The entertainment was brilliant, the hospitality fantastic, if you live within driving distance of this gem, then go over at the weekend and visit. We would love to live nearer it. When we are in the area again we will definitely visit. Thank you for a fabulous night

My sister and hubby moved into Bonsal about 7 years ago and I'e never had a dull night here since! Last weekend the advertised band couldn't make it, so Colette and Dave (owners) gave us two hours of acoustic gems; interspersed with greetings for every man, woman and dog that crossed the threshold! The rapport and time given to every one is rarely experienced these days, you enter the pub a customer and leave as a friend. Mines a Guiness Colette!
