Description: The Barley Mow is a lively and eccentric Free House located in the beautiful village of Bonsall. Famous for the 'World Championship Hen Races', and for being the most likely place to be abducted by aliens according to UFO magazine ! Fine food, great ale & one of the best live music venues in the area !

This was my first time at the Barley Mow, though my husband has been there previously with walking groups. We had been walking on Boxing Day and had booked a table for mid afternoon. When we arrived it was busy, with a mixture of locals and visitors, but we were welcomed like old friends and given our table. The food was very good and there was plenty of it! This pub has a very friendly atomosphere - I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

We live nearby and pop in every now and then for a drink or something to eat. Collette always makes us feel welcome and all of the bar staff are very friendly and helpful.
The meals are delicious and are all home cooked.
If you can save a bit of room for a pudding: our favourite is sticky figgy pudding: YUM!
A lovely cosy pub: just how pubs should be!
If your visiting Derbyshire give the Barley Mow a visit: you definitely won't be disappointed!

This was a return trip to the Barley Mow and what a return it was. Colette and Dave looked after us like family again, giving us the table by the fire when we made a reservation (knowing it would be busy). We had really good food with generous portions and a good choice of well kept Real Ales.
The entertainment came in the form of The Boothill Toe Tappers who were absolutely fantastic, with such a mix of style and ages of music that everyone was catered for. If you haven't been, you are missing out. If you have been, you will return.
I only wish I lived near this place...

We arrived a few minutes before the kitchen closed but it was not a problem - Collette is incredibly friendly and bubbly and ordere the kitchen to make us whatever we wanted! The food was excellent, and there was an open mic night - we were the only ones not playing an instrument or bursting into song and the atmosphere was incredible, pure country tavern!! I would definitely recommend stopping by!!

I've just had my birthday party at The Barley Mow, and what a great night! Colette and Dave were fantastic hosts . Great food, great live music and great friendly atmosphere. We stayed locally in rented cottages which were a short walk to the pub. If anyone's looking for a place for a large group to have a party you must try this place! Pauline
