Description: The Barley Mow is a lively and eccentric Free House located in the beautiful village of Bonsall. Famous for the 'World Championship Hen Races', and for being the most likely place to be abducted by aliens according to UFO magazine ! Fine food, great ale & one of the best live music venues in the area !

Visited this place on my honeymoon, incredibly friendly atmosphere. Great selection of beers and ciders on tap. Smallish but seemingly ever changing menu that is very reasonable with generous portions. We are planning to go back later in the week because we liked it that much!

Sunday 14th July - heatwave in Derbyshire, it was refreshing to eat inside this pub and just enjoy the cooler air. With a good selection of local and national beers, and Collette, the landlady who treated us like part of the family from the moment we walked in, this was a most enjoyable meal.
Although it was past 7.00pm, the Sunday roast menu was still available, and very good it was too!!!
My wife had a ham salad with proper chunks of home cooked ham, which she said was "first class". Pretty good value with two drinks each at less than thirty pounds.
Good food, good atmosphere, highly recommended.
Only downside - car park is a bit of a nightmare - seems to be half occupied by cars and vans that haven't moved for some time.

We stayed in Bonsall 2 nights and left feeling like we had a new home. Collette, the landlady of the Barley Mow welcomed locals and visitors equally warmly, and the choice of meals was recited to us by her as we didn't see a menu. We ate outside and enjoyed a brilliant battered hake and chips and a smoked fish and salad with home made focaccia olive bread made by the local vicar. As it was Saturday night we enjoyed the live music along with loads of other friendly customers.

Sunday night was quiet when we arrived at 1015pm, but still Collette welcomed us and although the kitchen was closed and we asked for food, she offered us more of the lovely bread as we were very hungry. When it arrived, it was not just bread, it was warmed, and served with olive oil, hummus, dressed salad with cooked chicken pieces. And for this holy feast, she did not want paying. She is star and deserves all the success for running a wonderful pub with great beer, food and atmosphere.
