We visited The Barley Mow with our parents, after a lovely afternoon in Matlock Bath. I had scoured trip advisor for suitable places to eat and the excellent reviews had drawn me towards The Barley Mow - I am so glad that they did!
When we arrived, we found a cosy corner and ordered some local ales to sample. The barman was really helpful and explained the options on the menu, which for a small local pub, we considered to be quite extensive. The food was reasonably priced and really very tasty, it was not the fastest food (being home cooked and fresh is much more important) and we were not in a rush to leave, so more than happily waited the 30 mins or so for our order to be brought to the table. All 5 of us cleared the plate and agreed that it was the best meal of the week, it was just a shame it was our last night in Derbyshire!
The landlady came and sat down with us for a chat and we got to meet her lovely little daughter, who was excited about trying some of the kitchens freshly made Rhubarb Crumble! Eddie, the landlady’s dad was lovely and chatted to the dads in our group about football (a Man City, a Man United and an Everton fan – so an interesting conversation was had).
We just wished that we had a local as special as the Barley Mow, as we could see ourselves spending a lot of time here – just a shame it’s 200 miles from home. If you are reading this review and wondering whether you should visit, just go for it, you won’t regret it.
Best of luck to the owners, don’t change this little gem, it’s perfect as it is!
