This hotel has another name called "Paradise Inn". Accordingly to local tour guide, this was "the best" and "5-star" hotel in Lugu lake area but the truth is, it pales in comparison to all its neighbours, in my opinion, the worst in the area. I think a lot of the "smaller inns" are not publicised on the internet but around Lugu lake, there are actually many small and cozier-looking inns and many of them have available rooms for rent when we were there in late October.

What I found very misleading was the picture that shows a direct "lake-view" room of the inn. But in fact, most inns there have direct lake view of Lugu lake around that stretch.

The hotel was located right at the end of Lugu lake on a semi-separated island called Lige Island. What I disliked about the hotel was:

1) The room was dated, poorly-maintained, dark and gloomy.
2) The bed was extremely hard and bedsheets were stained.
3) There was hot water but only lasted a while - not the kind for you to enjoy a long hot shower after a day out in the cold.
4) There's no bedroom slippers, so you will have to bring from your previous hotel or your own as the floor is not something you want to walk barefooted on.
5) The balcony that was supposed to give access to full lake-view is directly linked to the bathroom, so if you are taking a shower, definitely it has to be closed as guests next door can easily look in. The balcony is made of wooden planks and some of the planks have given way, or are with holes in them.
6) It was also the ONLY hotel along the stretch with NO television.

For all of the above, the hotel is actually quite steep. We paid over 400RMB per night.

We made a booking for 2 nights but left after the first night as it was too unbearable. During our first night there, we caught a big spider in the bedroom and a cockroach in the toilet. We checked out the next morning because 1) the inn was crap and 2) Lugu lake is really such a small area that one doesn't need 2 full days there to tour the lake unless you are there on a SLOW R&R trip.

We cut short lugu lake and made our way back to Lijiang where more sightseeing can be done.

Room Tip: I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all. A better choice would be the neighbouring ones.

Bookings must be made directly on their website, by leaving a message in the forum - can be a challenge if you don't read Chinese. Anyway here is the address: www.luguparadise.cn. Deposit must be made by bank transfer or Alipay, again a challenge if you don't have any Chinese bank account!
Aside from that, the hostel is located on the Lige peninsula, extending into the lake. It's really at the tip of the peninsula, not blocked by anything else, so you get unbeatable views and the balconies are all directly above the water. We had a room on second floor (Star Room) for RMB260 per night. Very spacious with king sized bed. Bean bags on the dangerously looking balcony. The first night I opened the doors and stepped onto the balcony, to be greeted by thousands of brilliant stars seemingly within reach - unforgettable memory!
Because we were pick-pocketed in Lijiang, we arrived in Lugu without much cash. The owner kindly helped to get 1000rmb cash for us through Alipay arrangement.
The three dogs they own were extremely friendly and love to play catch!
Only down side was the amount of insects attracted by lights at night. Impossible to keep windows open~

We traveled in China for a month this year. We had such high hopes for this place. But it was the most disappointing. The view and location were the best on the island. But, that is all the positive that I can say about the place. Here is how I feel about the place:

1. The owner is long absent from the place. The workers could care less about the customers. They barely speak to you. When asked about what they recommend about traveling in the area, they say to check out the website. If you expect any service at all, this is not the place for you.
2. The rooms had a nice view but nothing else. Our room had a cracked toilet seat that was taped together. The tape was yellow. Pee perhaps? When we sat on it after covering it with paper, it broke off entirely. Well, at least the next person staying in that room will hopefully have new toilet seat. The room was not that clean either. So, if cleanliness is important to you, this is not the place for you. Our friend booked LiuRu, Bi’an’s best room. It was a really nice room. Still, it was not clean and the bathroom was outdated.
3. Every time that I went to try to use the computer, someone was on it playing card games. Why do people play card games on a computer at such a beautiful place is beyond me. But, that seems to be the theme. One night, it was raining outside. So, we thought that we would chit chat in the lobby and have a drink. But, all the other guests were either playing video games or watching TV/movies on their computers. It was so quite that you can hear a pin drop. Not a great atmosphere for vacation when we are looking to meet new people and enjoy new experiences. But, if you like a quite place where you can read a book and catch up on your TV, this is for you.
4. The two-bed room is bigger than the one-bed room. In the one-bed room, you have to walk through the bathroom to get to the balcony.
5. Shower was weak. Not the worst we had, but expected more from this place. Considering it’s price, I expected better bathroom.

Unlike all the other B&Bs we stayed at in China, they offered no assistance, zero interest in talking to us, and all they want from you is your money and to leave them alone. I am referring to the staff, not the owner. During our trip, we met many people who also stayed at Bi’an. They all said the same thing about the lack of any service from the staff. Many of these people were fellow B&B owners we met when we stayed at their places. They are all 100% better than Bi’an in terms of service. I am not saying that I need 5-star service. Their website clearly states they don’t offer that. But, they really offer no service.

When we were looking for the place when we first arrived, we went inside 里格半岛7号客栈 (No. 7 Lige Inn). The owner there was very helpful. Their place looked very nice. I know no one can beat Bi’an’s location. But, if I was to visit again, I will not stay at Bi’an.

If the owner is reading this, I wish that you would check on the place more often and perhaps get better staff. We stayed at numerous B&Bs during this trip. The service here is by far the worst.
