“A Paradise of Tranquility”
Reviewed January 25, 2010

We could not have been happier with our one-week stay at Bayfield House. Our host and hostess, Trevor and Pam, were warm, welcoming, and immensely helpful. The wrap-around verandah was to die for. The songs of the birds made for better music than any band. We lived at the pool (and too often at the bar for the special rum punch!). Trevor is a superb chef, and guests can sign up for dinners three nights a week. We found the other guests to be delightful company. All of them came, as we did, for tranquil beauty, quiet, and understated luxury.

We can echo all of the other positive reviews - Bayfield House really is that good, & Trevor, Pam & Jason are perfect hosts. We fully intend to book again next year, and we rarely revisit places.

Bayfield House is easy to get to from the Airport. There's no need to pre-book as the fares seem now to be regulated. Trevor can organize the return trip at the end of your stay.

Located very close to Mullins Beach (but turn left to go to the much better/quiter/spectacular Gibbes Beach), there's a small choice of eateries within walking distance. Mullins Beach Bar/Restaurant is ok, but about 40% overpriced. There's an excellent Chinese restaurant/take-away (US$35 meal for 2, & Bayfield will lay a table), another BBQ bar/takeaway, and the nearby Texaco petrol station has an attached supermarket. Trevor cooks evening meals 3 time/week, and these are worth staying in for. Finally, Bayfield is situated just off Highway 1B (not too close, though), and there are busses approximately every 5 minutes either North or South. Holetown is therefore very easy to get to/from, including late at night. And Holetown has plenty of places to eat/enjoy.

You can manage easily without a car.

There's a Spa thingy just around the corner if you fancy a massage/pedicure too.

The house itself is first rate, rooms are excellent, with ac & a fan. Each room has a full-size fridge. The pool is beautiful, warm & fresh-water. There's always someone on hand to serve a drink (nice Rum Punch Trevor).

Very very good.

We chose to stay at Bayfield House after reading the reviews on trip advisor and I am pleased to say we weren't in the least bit disappointed. The rooms, location, food, and service were spot on.

Rooms- large, clean, nice big bathroom (and lots of hot water- we did stay in room 103 and had no problems the whole week)

Location- great area in barbados, close to 2 towns (and easy to reach by bus) so plenty of restaurant choice, off the main road, and most importantly a quick 5min walk to the beach

Food- breakfast was lovely, cooked to order (not buffet!) with a good selection, from fruit to full english, and plenty of tea and coffee. We also really enjoyed the 3 course meal Trevor serves 3 nights a week.

Service- Pam, Trevor, and Jason make a great team, and are natural in their hosting skills. They make you feel at home, and not like they are being paid to be nice to you (which is sometimes the feeling I get when you go to big resorts)

Although I have stayed at some lovely places (most of them recommended by users of trip advisor) I fail to write a review, but this time I really wanted to share what a great, relaxing and I feel unique experience we had at Bayfield House (hope we can make it back one day!)

If like me, you can't stand all-inclusive resorts where you bump into people, food and booze all day, pick Bayfield House, a Bed & Breakfast in the fine old English tradition with some add-ons such as a swimming pool surrounded by lush greenery and comfortable lounging chairs, and if you prefer a Rum punch with nutmeg that will knock your socks off.

The house is really done up well. It is an old mansion with a good sized property around it that was renovated to provide a large porch for breakfasts or to just lounge around. The 18-foot porch runs all around the house, upstairs and downstairs, with wooden floors. Which means right outside your room you have a sheltered spot with comfortable sofas and chairs to sit and ponder the brilliant sunlight during the day and listen to the gazilion tree frogs trying to entice their neighbour's wife at night time with their unique croaking! :) All in good faith.

The rooms like the rest of the house are decorated tastefully and with just enough furniture: a desk to sit and write your postcard or two upright sofa chairs to catch your breath before the next outing. The bathrooms are clean and spacious, the closet more than sufficient for your holiday attire, and a safe for your valuables that is as easy as remembering four numbers.

If you seek solitude in the morning before breakfast (7.30 to 10 a.m.), make some tea or coffee in your room, sit outside your room on a sofa and read. You might even catch a glimpse of a horde of green monkey rushing to the next property. Or in the afternoon. You'll be lucky if you bump into your neighbouring guests.

And when you've convinced yourself that you've found a gem, there are two more things to top this: Mullins and Gibbs beach are hardly five minutes by foot. Relax on the beach and listen to the crashing of the waves or dive in; or sit in the Mullins beach bar, have a Banks Bajan beer and a flying fish sandwich (do ask for the Bajan pepper sauce instead of ketchup).

The second, Trevor and Pamela, your hosts, and their helpers, son Jason and daughter Maria. Do ask Pamela about her long ancestry in Barbados -- an ancestor called Joe that she tracked, who came on the very first ship from England to Barbados in 1637! The two of them are hospitality pros and you'll find that out very quickly in their demeanour as they help you with everything from renting a scooter or car to directing you to restaurants to giving you common-sense advice that will make your stay so much more relaxed and happy. If you're nice to Jason, he may well allow you to join him at Surfside pub in nearby Holetown (the spot when Joe and the first ship landed) for a beer and a large screen soccer match broadcascast live from England. And Trevor? Well, think Winston Churchill with a twinkle in his eyes, a straight shooter with a natural talent for making the best rum punch with nutmeg and if you are tired of dining out, a simple salad or sandwich to more than tide you over. Or he'll make a full dinner.

And the breakfast: simple (fruits, toast, jam and marmalade, fresh eggs, hot coffee or tea -- you also have the facility to make this in your room -- and fruit juices. Just right. Not those overdone resort-type made meals where you eat simply because there is a mound of scrambled eggs in front of you.

Paradise, you say? I would say so. And the more's the pit that it isn't closer to home. We'd be there every second weekend!

If you decide to go to Barbados, forget all these big resorts but go instead to Bayfield House, a characteristic B&B! From the first step in the property Trevor's welcoming smile and his rum punch stay with you even after you left for home. The house is beautiful you can feel how much Pam and Trevor put into it and each detail has been perfectly planned. our room was spic and span and just outside our door there was a beautiful and confortable sitting area to enjoy our reading and relaxing. It was our first trip in Barbados and Pam and Trevor helped us in making restaurant reservation, booking a rental car and any other needs we expressed. They were so attentive that even when we returned our car they managed for us so that we did not have to wait for hours to return it. The breakfast was served outside under a lovely porch with various options from fruits cereal tost and of course my favorite Trevor's omelette. The house is literally 4 minutes walk from 2 beaches, Mullins and Gibbs. Both lovely spots to swim and sunbathe. The warmth and kindness of Pam and Trevor and their children Jason and Maria made our holidays very very special. We really look forward for our next trip in Bayfield.
GREAT JOB TREVOR AND PAM! SEE YOU SOON!

The Bayfield property has been well invested in, with a lovely pool area, comfortable beds and well equipped rooms. It's in a brilliant location on the island, ideal for exploring further by car and Trevor was very helpful with road directions and where to go or eat. We particularly enjoyed St Nicholas Abbey and the east coast road down to Bathsheba. Our only gripe was the lack of hot water to shower with in the morning. On our side of the property (rooms 101 and 103), we only had 3 decent hot showers in 5 days. Having a reliable supply of hot water in any hotel or B&B is a basic requirement and it was irritating us by the end of our stay. Although Trevor did apologise and discount our bill, the issue was unresolved by the time we left. Frustrating! It took the shine off the property, which overall, has so much going for it.

Once again, trip advisor steered us to a wonderful spot on a beautiful island.

With Jet Blue's new direct service to Barbados from NYC, a weekend spent with the Ramsay's at Bayfield house is the antidote for whatever ails you.

Trevor and Pam are fabulous hosts - everything said about their Inn is true. Trevor is a veteran of Sandy Lane (the posh establishment up the road) and it shows in everything from the gorgeous linens to the lovely grounds and sprinkle of nutmeg in the rum punch (yes, he really does make the best.)

More than one evening was spent chatting with Trevor and his family, enjoying the rum punches with other guests. Who would know we would meet the checkers champion of the US while at the bar - and that the world champion is a Barbados resident known to Trevor? Fabulous hosting and wonderful conversation.

Breakfasts were delicious - eggs, sausage, broiled tomato, fruit, toast - and their special fruit juice - yum! All the facilities are top notch - rooms are immaculate, AC is quiet and keeps rooms climate controlled without being clammy.

The Inn is located a stone's throw from beautiful Mullins Beach, Gibbs is down the road. Parking is free and safe. Great location to launch tour of the island (as someone else said - do not miss St. Nicholas Abbey) and avoid the crush of all-inclusives at the south end.

Dreaming about going back as soon as possible.
