We have just returned from 15 nights at Bayfield House {1 was courtesy of Mr. Branson for delaying our flight home, which was nice!}
It is a superb family run Hotel in a nice quiet location about 40mins in a taxi from the airport, (about BBD$80) up a quiet road a few minutes from the beach at Mullins Bay.
Staying at the Bayfield House is like having your own luxury villa, but not having to do any of the work!
All of the rooms are exquisitely furnished to the highest standard. Every room has air con, ceiling fan, fridge, hairdryer, tea/coffee making facilities, alarm clock and a little plug in mosquito repellent. The beds are so comfy; sometimes it was a struggle for us to get out of them in the morning, although the rum & cokes the night before may have had something to do with that as well.
Once out of bed, Trevor serves up a great breakfast; there is tea/coffee, fruit juice, toast, cereal or fresh fruit and a full English.
Bayfield House has its own lovely pool were you can relax in peace and quiet if you fancy a change from the beach. You will even get to see the monkeys coming back through the gardens each day back from their day out ~ pinching the mangos from the trees on the way past!
{You must go to Gibbes beach ~ onto Mullins beach, turn left & keep going around the corner ~ we often had it all to ourselves!}
Trevor Pam and their son Jason can’t do enough for you. They will tell you all the nice places to eat and what to see if you hire a car. It like having the Barbados tourist office in the hotel with you!
You should have meal in Mullins Bay restaurant at the bottom of the road, although a little expensive, the food and service are outstanding.
Other restaurants are a bus journey away ~ 5mins into Speightstown & 15 to Holetown the buses are very frequent and the stops are just at the bottom of the road. You should try the buses just for the experience!
If you don’t fancy going to town, Trevor will cook you a lovely 3-course meal if you give him a little notice. {You’ve got to try his bread & butter pudding, with rum sauce of course} They have a great selection of wine {cheaper than any restaurant we visited in 2 weeks !}
Our favourite Restaurant was Spagos. An Italian at Settlers Beach Hotel ~Valet parking and the best Pizzas, right on the beach. They have a guitarist and a singer on Wednesday nights while you’re eating.
You should hire a car for a few days, as there are lots of things to see around the Island, and it’s more convenient than getting the bus. Trevor and Pam will sort that out for you, and tell you where to go and what to see. The Cool Runnings Catamaran trip is a must ~ all you can eat and drink as well as swimming with turtles ~ another recommendation from Trevor.
This was our first time to Barbados & we couldn’t have picked a better Hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bayfield House and wouldn’t hesitate to return.
Thanks to Trevor, Pam and Jason for making it our best holiday ever, Superb.

On arrival you couldn't receive a warmer welcome than that given by Trevor and Pam Ramsay. As a single traveller it was ideal , as fellow guests were introduced, and frequently shared and discussed their daily plans over a drink at the bar, contributing to a very friendly atmosphere. Trevor, Pam, and Jason their son were always available to help and advise, and provide maps and information of local attractions, places of interest and restaurants to dine.

The standard of the hotel rooms is second to none - all very spacious with large enough showers/bathrooms to almost accommodate a football team!! All rooms are immaculately maintained, and have the most comfortable beds I have ever experienced in hotels. All have ceiling fans and air conditioning which give respite from the hot sun, and create a tranquil retreat. The rooms have no television, but this proved an asset in the eyes of every guest I spoke to, In fact most didn't bother with the radio in the room either. And if you hadn't brought your own laptop, Trevor kindly allowed you to use his for emails, checking in for flights etc.

The a la carte breakfast sets you up for the rest of the day and consists of virtually anything you wish to eat, and is prepared by Trevor, as is the evening meal should you wish to eat in the hotel. The evening meals are delicious and very varied, and Trevor listens to guest's likes and dislikes and succeeds in pleasing and surprising everyone.

One or other member of the family is available from very early morning - even 5.00am if a guest is departing - through the day until the very last guest is in bed which is often in the wee small hours!

This was a lovely holiday where you couldn't enjoy a more friendly atmosphere with hosts who do all they can to ensure your stay is unforgettable. I wish them every success in the future, and hope to return as soon as possible.

We stayed for 3 days in May - not long enough! Trevor and Pam were perfect hosts. Trevor even got up to see us off at 5am since we had to drive to the airport for an early flight. Don't plan on any activities until you get there - they have wonderful recommendations. You should reserve a mini-moke for your car. It is a cute jeep convertable. You just have to smile when you drive it!! Thanks to Trevor and Pam for a wonderful stay.

What a find! We’ve just got home from a fantastic 9 nights at Bayfield House and we’re already looking at flights for another visit! This place offers unbelievable value for money compared to most of the overpriced resort options on the island

The west coast location is fantastic, 5 minutes walk to the famous Mullins Beach where you can rent out loungers and umbrellas for around $20US, and also get a cocktail or (relatively expensive) evening meal at the Mullins Beach Bar. It’s also 10 minutes walk to the adjoining Gibbes Beach, truly one of the best beaches we’ve been to anywhere in the world…no amenities such as bar or chairs, but this means it’s very secluded and quiet, fronted by a series of posh-looking private houses owned by the rich and famous. One word of warning on location though…you will need a hire car unless you are happy to taxi/bus it everywhere except the local beach. There are lots of restaurants in Holetown and Speightstown, but both are outside realistic walking distance and there are loads of other sites on the island worth seeing as well which makes car hire good value for money.

Bayfield house itself is stunning, with beautiful gardens, a great little pool area and verandas that wrap around both floors. There is a poolside bar where a member of the family is always on hand to fix you a drink, which goes onto the room tab to save hassle. It’s a nice place to sit and chat to the Ramsays or to other guests…and at $8.50 (Barbadian) for a rum punch it’s also very good value for money and easy to end up late for your dinner reservations! There were all age ranges staying when we were there, from 20something couples on their first visit, to retired guests who have been coming to Barbados for years and know the Ramsays from previous hotels that Trevor has managed.

The service is very informal and relaxed…you feel like you are staying as guests in the Ramsays home. There is always a member of the family on hand, either Trevor, Pam or their son Jason, and they’re all happy to help out with restaurant recommendations, driving directions or sight-seeing. Ask them about cheap-eats at the local “Groots” bar, or dinner at the fantastic Fishpot in Little Good Harbour just up the road.

Cooked breakfasts (to order), toast, fresh fruit and cereal are served every day out on the poolside veranda, as are the optional three course evening meals that Trevor can provide on request. There’s no better way to start the day than enjoying breakfast looking out over the gardens, watching the green monkeys (yes really, there’s a troop that hang out next door), humming birds and geckos.

The room we had (103) was spacious and quiet, with a very comfortable bed. The air-con and ceiling fan kept the room very cool at night, I guess helped by the thick walls. There’s also a fridge, glasses and crockery for sorting out a snack or drink in your room. There are no screens or nets to keep biting insects at bay, which at first we were a little concerned about, but it proved not to be much of a problem in the room or anywhere else on the property. There’s one of those plug-in mosquito repellents in each room, and Trevor was more than happy to have the room sprayed after we got a couple of bites on one of the nights. One thing to note is that you will need to bring your own shower-gel, shampoo etc, as only soap bars are provided in the rooms. There’s no TV in the rooms, but there is wireless and Trevor was more than happy to let us use his laptop to get on the internet a couple of times.

Overall, this place is stunning and represents a little piece of “old Barbados” in amongst all the all-inclusives and apartment blocks. I just hope we can still get a booking this time next year once this place’s secret is out!

The Bayfield House is new and everything about it is quality from the simplest detail to the overall package. Brilliant rooms, perfect swimming pool, delightful gardens and food and drink that are good value and certainly just right for us.
Trevor, Pam and their excellent team have created something just a bit special and they all work hard to make your stay perfect.
The hotel is 200 metres up a (quiet) side road from Mullins Bay - easy walk - and Mullins has got to be one of the best spots in Barbados. The Mullins Bay restaurant does good value lunches and drinks during the day and the view is stunning. At night it becomes a posh restaurant - not cheap, but our meal was outstanding (and there was no drive home!)
Local buses are fine and get you to Speightstown or Holetown in a few minutes, and other posh restaurants like the Fishpot and Lonestar are only minutes away by cab.
Our stay at Bayfield was a complete switch-off, and would happily return - for its position, its a bargain for the West coast (despite the financial state of play, some of the quotes for some of the bigger and allegedly top hotels bordered on the bizarre, and now we have found the Bayfield we cannot see any point in paying $400+ a night for an inferior room and overpriced food and drink.
The other nice thing about the Bayfield is that there is no TV!, and why bother with the radio or trying to work the phone. There is free wifi and that was a boon. What we did like was the great atmosphere in the small bar, few drinks and chat in the evening and then good food well prepared and beautifully presented (the bread and butter pudding - and, yes I was surprised - was amazing - eat your heart out Michael Winner!)
Check out the website or give Trevor a call.

Well..What a Find. Try it now, as a year on it will probably be impossible to get in.

Great location just 300 yards from the infamous West Coast Mullins Beach.

Bayfield is overseen by Trevor, Pam and Jason Ramsay who personally ensure it's guests receive VIP treatment but in a truly honest and sincere way.

The rooms are exquisite with every amenity, the al a carte breakfasts make a great start to the day and you must take the opportunity to eat in of an evening to experience superb home cooking. (little tip...talk to Trevor about your favourites, he has a habit of surprising you)

We stayed for Xmas and New Year and have to say we found our stay at Bayfield outstanding. The guests New Years dinner and entertainment (with a little help from the guests) made it one of the most pleasant and memorable celebrat ions for some years.

You cannot go wrong here !! Compared to some of the "up market " hotels Bayfield provides all that at exceptonally good value ., you can actually afford the intimate luxury Bayfield provides.

You will find it impossible not to make good friends with the Ramsays, feel you have known them for years and really want to return....soon.

We found Bayfield House an oasis in a land of resort hotels. This is a boutique hotel with 10 luxuriously appointed rooms. A family team owns Bayfield whom are consummate hotel industry professionals specialising in guest care and providing a wonderful retreat when visiting Barbados.
The beautifully restored plantation house with its pool and covered veranda’s is situated just a short stride from Mullins Bay and Gibbs Bay and a short taxi ride from Holetown in St Peters.
The hosts Trevor, Pamela and Jason Ramsay will organise airport transfers, hire cars, restaurant reservations and all the paraphernalia that travellers need. They provide a raft of information to ensure that guests get the best out of their visit to Barbados. The breakfast is a la carte and Trevor an excellent chef provides dinner 3 nights a week served al fresco. While many hotels may claim to provide the same facilities none provide the careful guest care provide by the Ramsay's who are there when you need them and invisible when you need privacy, the family team make the a stay at Bayfield House so very relaxing. A great holiday – we will return.
